One of the many things I like with this thread is someone will post some music I haven’t played, or given any thought to for some time. Just played Led Zeppelin III. More of an acoustic slant, especially side 2, than their other albums… Since I’ve Been Loving You - is still a great blues/rock track.
All-time favorite Zeppelin album. Lots of good memories blasting this out of my Jensen car speakers in my rusted out Toyota Mark IV (floor board exploded out when going through a puddle one day). She didn’t look good but she sure sounded good.
Bootzilla has a link in his post to a free download
No disagreement with that. Musica Antiqua Koln is on my ‘highly reliable’ list, and the SQ was fine. It was just the compositions which were less captivating than one might hope for
I have posted this before but I am listening to it because it is at 24/192 and, having just installed a new Internet Hub, I need to make sure that the streaming is going over Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi. Since I adore Biber it is not a painful test to carry out
And it is a wonderful performance
Yes. It took me a little while to get used to it, since I was so accustomed to the Manze interpretation, but it is probably now my version of choice.
Understandably, his recordings are also excellent - but they are quite different in their approaches.
I’ve been really enjoying my main system newly relocated in an upstairs area. It’s definitely been an improvement in sound, several factors improved it. And I can play vinyl again, which is fun and means I stop thinking of selling turntable and vinyl.
I’ve played today:
Tamba 4 “We and the Sea” Universal A&M cd from Japan
Jackie McLean “Let Freedom Ring” UHQCD from Blue Note Japan (sounds like earlier US mastering to me)
John Coltrane “Coltrane” Impulse SHM-CD from Japan
Duke Ellington “Indigos” Columbia Mono LP
Yazz Ahmed “La Saboteuse”
Coleman Hawkins and Kenny Burrell “Moonglow” Prestige 2 LP set
Life is good.
haha someone has this album besides me
No need to discuss the legacy performance and the vintage recording really stands out! Close mic and full; I have both CD and LP and both are great to listen to!
Weird album cover. The painting doesn’t do him justice. Lowell George was a ladies man of the highest caliber.
… And you thought the Lowell George album cover was weird!
