What are you spinning right now?

What God sounds like…

A pretty bad ass version of “Stormy Monday.” Great White Boy blues all the way…

Not White Boy Blues. My folks could have seen Muddy Waters with Little Walter. Didn’t…no one crossed the color barrier in Chicago then. Would now!!

96/24…the HD is worth it on this one. Most aren’t. Super analog sounding on the DS!! Glorious stuff.

Salvatore Sciarrino: Variazioni for cello and orchestra (1974)

Albéric Magnard: String Quartet in E minor, Op. 16
Quatuor Elysée

Disc 13. It’s is so glorious here in Chicagoland this weekend. 50 deg F, bright sunshine, days are getting longer, baseball is back (south side fan since I was 10). Can’t wait to get my deck system set up. Long summer evenings on the deck with a Manhattan and Nat King Cole…ahhhhh.

Right to the sweet spot of my musical heart! DRs in the 14-15 range. Soooo great at Smokey Joe’s Cafe!!

The peak of James Brown’s musical power. It really could be. I’m not a formal student but have a lot of recorded James Brown…this is up there at the very top!!

White Boy Blues loud…30 Days in the Hole!!

White Boy Jazz…just as great as White Boy Blues…

So how do you get an entire album to play in five minutes or less?

I cheat! I love playlists. Full albums at the beginning of the night and then jump around looking for greatness. I know it’s not de rigueur in these parts but I love going from Sidney Bechet to Johnny Cash in two songs.

I built a “best of” playlist as I listen. It’s 1400 + songs at this point. I’m a music sponge and buy crazy numbers of CDs. The songs that stick get put in a best of playlist. I shuffle the playlist all the time. The playlist is random, it would be different if I started over tomorrow but would retain an esthetic: my life and love of American music in most of its forms.

Nothing wrong with this at all. It is the music which counts.

I believe in one love…next weekend…
