AMSCOâI have a funny Tito Puente story: 28 years ago, when my son was 6, we were riding to the Short Hills mall to buy him sneakers. He is now a shrink and also a musician as am I and we were talking about Tito who we were listening to on WBGO.
As we entered the mall, I heard live music coming from the lounge area and holy moly!!!, itâs Tito Puente with a six piece band wailing away! The joint was rockinâ. Blue sneakers and an hour long free concert!

I particularly was moved/transported by seeing the back, which showed a lot of wear, maybe from groovy belt buckles, who knows. It just had an immediacy - yup, dude actually used this axe. Forget exactly where it was from - I think it was the one he played in the set at Monterey prior to the one he set on fire.
I was similarly transported by seeing handwritten lyrics such as Dylanâs Gates of Eden:
Jimi was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar many years ago, and Iâm still a Strat fan, just such versatile and comfortable guitars. . . I have three real Fender Strats (a mahagony bodied Deluxe, a Custom Shop Classic, and a Billy Corgan signature) and my favorite is an all Warmoth/Seymour Duncan one with a black limba body, Wenge neck and fingerboard and Hot Rail/Cool Rails, just a tone monster. I also have two luthier built âWolfâ by Irwin inspired guitars; Wolf itself has a lot of inspiration from StratsâŠI donât realy play well and I donât realy play as much any more, but I canât seem to part with any of these guitars!
The new Jimi is. . . moer of the same along the lines of the previous two from the Estate. Not top-notch material, but interesting, and the mastering by Bernie Grundman is excellent. So glad that Grundman has been doing the mastering the last few years. This August SACDs of the first two are due with Grundman nastering and both stereo and mono mixes!
Lonâmine is one of the first Cunetto era Strats. I use it for everything, even jazz. I tried Virgil Arlo pickups and theyâre great. Ron

Is that what they called it? I thought it was cool, but have often subsequently second guessed the choice. The Seafoam Green was cool, but seemed just too obvious a choice at the time.
