What are you spinning right now?

I haven’t listened to this for a while, Byrd being a bit ‘early’ for my taste, but I decided to revisit it. It sounded more liturgical than I remembered.

I had read a lot of really good reviews after finding out who the singers, orchestra and conductor were. Still, I wasn’t ready for how incredible the CD sounds! The CD package includes a thick booklet outlining all of the tracks, who is participating, etc. The booklet even provides full detail of what is happening in every act.

The great thing about the “death” of CDs is that you can buy gem is like this for next to nothing - $8 in this case.

G@d bless A Thousand Highways for the amazing curated collections unreleased Bob Dylan recordings! (Free, too!)

The “You’re a Big Girl Now” on this one is particularly sublime.

Picked up at their show at The Jazz Playhouse on Bourbon Street in the Royal Sonesta Hotel (yes, there is some live Jazz still on Bourbon Street). Straight forward live trad jazz recorded very well. I’m a sucker for this stuff.

Some light and imaginative organ playing here. Bull seems to have been a bit of a lad, notorious for extending his “Touching of organs and virginals” beyond the field of music!

Don’t know about you but I was disappointed in the sq of this sacd.

Wow!, I learn so much from this thread. So many times I find things I didn’t know about, by artists that I thought I knew well! What an excellent crowd here.

Huh. No, I’m very happy with the sound of this SACD myself.
