What are you spinning right now?

I’m on to disc 14 of the Collector’s Edition of “1965-1966: The Cutting Edge” box set of Bob Dylan masterpieces in the rough. Wonderfully interesting takes of “Sad-Eyed Lady of the Low Lands” and “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.”

Just found this previously lost and newly issued Thelonious Monk 1963 live recording on TIDAL … Woooow, it is great!

The late Toy Caldwell’s guitar work on this 1974 Southern rock masterpiece does not get the credit it deserves, I think. Check out “This Ol’ Cowboy,” “24 Hours at a Time,” “Take the Highway” and especially “Everyday (I Have the Blues).” “Everyday (I Have the Blues)” is like a electric guitar symphony played in separate movements. Tragically, Toy – a United States Marine Corps Vietnam combat veteran – died unexpectedly in 1993 at the age of 45.

Funny how we pigeon hole things in our lives. Marshall Tucker Band is a band my sister, who’s tastes I never wanted to replicate, liked; therefore, I can’t like Marshall Tucker. This looks like a great record. The used CD prices on this thing are pretty high. Plus, surprising, there aren’t any Marshall Tucker HDtracks available. I’ll keep looking. Thanks for bringing it to my attention bootzilla!!

Poor old Vivaldi! A lifetime of constant exposure to “The Four Seasons” has taken the edge off his charms. I am trying to remind myself that he did actually have other compositions.

I think I know what you mean about musical pigeon-holing. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s when I was a teenager, I had a girlfriend who was into Bruce Springsteen. At that time, I listened mostly to Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Who, etc., along with the Southern rock genre that was so popular at the time. I thought Bruce was a bad imitation of Bob Dylan and I would not have been caught dead at a Bruce concert in those days. Man, do I ever regret that now, as I missed out on some legendary Bruce shows (such as the Winterland '78 show you attended)!

I don’t recall the lyrics correctly, “more guitars than ants on a Tennessee anthill, but I’ll buy them” Got good deal on Ebay
Thanks to both of you, B & A

Funny that you mention Tennessee, as the Volunteer State features prominently in “Where a Country Boy Belongs,” which is a great Toy Caldwell song on “Where We All Belong.” It begins as follows:

I just threw my bottle at the jukebox
Got tired of hearing them same old songs
Gotta get myself back to Tennessee
Lord, where a country boy belongs

I kinda like those city women
When they walk by, Lord, and the way they smell
Gotta get myself back to Tennessee
Where the women and the wildcats, they both raise hell

Bootzilla - downloaded it, pretty good. So I went surfing on the Archive.Org site for others. I found one from 2/14/1976 that has really good sound quality and the playing is superb. Check it out if you get a chance. Winterland 1976

As good as the regular cd of this sounds when I saw a copy of the Sony K2 HD cd at a good price I went for it. Does indeed sound very good.

Looks great, thanks for the tip, will check it out!

Referring to the Van Morrison “Astral Weeks” - Be sure it is the Japanese “remaster” or whatever - the vocals and instruments are so much clearer…

Indeed it’s great! I’ve got the hires album and the Scully/Westrex cut vinyl. The digital album sounds very close to it.
