New release I found on Qobuz this week. Very enjoyable saxophone quartet transcriptions of mostly French composers. They were winners of the 9th International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka.
A very enjoyable new addition to my music collection. Carlo Mannelli (1640-97) is extremely and undeservedly under-represented in the current catalogue of recorded Baroque music. I encourage anyone who loves music of this period to give it a try. It’s very well performed and recorded.
I don’t know how these 2005-07 vintage recordings of F. X Richter Symphonies escaped my attention all these years but I’m sure glad they presented themselves a couple of days ago.
These luscious examples of the infancy (or toddlerhood, more accurately) of symphonic composition should be heard by anyone with the least amount of interest in this kind of thing.
Perfomances are excellent and the sound is very good except for the mistake of opting for a church acoustic which tends to obscure some of the finer details of Set 1, the earlier recording. Set 2, recorded two years later, is fine in every respect.
This is Qobuz’s album of the week and it’s a genre blending winner to my sensibilities. A mezzo-soprano, a lute, and moog or mellotron, performing a hybrid program alternating songs by John Dowland and contemporary songwriters. Purists might be horrified but I’m open to cross pollination. Great sounding recording as well.
Yet another most fine Harmonia Mundi recording. Having both the CD and the LP I opted for my CD version this morning. Sonicially exceptional, and the performance is to my liking.
For those most familiar with the above, I am hearing a bit of fine grain riding on top of the harpsichord. My first thought is it is the nature of the particular instrument being played. That said a second thought has occurred to me, the Power Zone 3.10 may be unduly emphasizing this texture. It can be a bit annoying as it is somewhat unnatural. Playback is on my Pass Labs system driving Pure Audio Project Trio speakers. When I have the opportunity I will repeat the effort on my primary system with the Wilson SabrinaX, which undoubtedly will cast a light on this texture.
I fear it may be a drawback associated with the imsertion of my PZ 3.10.
96k stream from Qobuz sounds lovely, no noise. Thanks for mentioning this disc……
