The Freiburg Baroque Orchestra is doing a series of the Mozart Piano concertos with K Bezuidenhout as soloist. I have them all and the sound is excellent (24/96) as are the performances.
Wilms was highly regarded in his own time, even compared to Beethoven. His music then fell into obscurity but has been rediscovered recently. There are lots of good recordings of him around, but I like this one particularly because in the sinfonie concertante you can clearly hear the solo instruments playing against the orchestra. Excellent sound (24/96} and performance.
I am Qobuz-ing it now. Its precisely to my tastes
A true warhorse Holst The Planets LA Philharmonic directed by Zubin Mehta. Sonically this OG Decca LP is the one to have.
Having come to the music of Bela Bartok during my mid-high school years I have continue to enjoy Bartok and this particular performance. Bartok opened my mind and my ears to the sound of contemporary composers such as Stravinsky, Webern, Schoenberg, and Ives. Sonically this a solid recording even though it is only a lowly original mono shaded dog pressing. Reiner gets it just right.
A delightful collection of mid to later 18th century string quartets by composers overshadowed by Haydn and Mozart. This recording is definitely worth giving a listen with splendid HI perfomances on period instruments by a young Dutch ensemble with loads of talent. The recorded sound is top notch too.
This is just releaased today and I’ve listened to op. 95, 127 & 130.
These are wonderful, wonderful period instrument, HI performances! The slow movement of op. 127 had me teary eyed with quivering lip which is not at all normal for me.
This has been a great cycle thus far. I can’t wait to hear this last set
Great performance and great recording. Thanks for flagging it!
