For some time I’ve wanted to share some of this outstanding classical music and recordings coming from Sono Luminus’ ventures with Icelandic composers. Finally, here is that article:

This may be becoming my preferred performance of this work (at least for this week).

Only three albums in this article but all recorded by Bert van der Wolf, all phenomenally good performances, and all in excellent sound quality. And, all classical music!

Doing a survey of the versions in my library, partly in prep for an ISO concert next week. Besides this, we have Münch and the Boston (RCA Living Stereo), Dutoit and the Montréal (Decca), and Slatkin with the Orchestre National de Lyon (Naxos).

I originally gave this a like, mainly because I like the polonaises.
But the performance? Not so much.

“Spinning Now” is not necessarily about performance recommendations, but about what one is currently playing. Commentary follows. In this case, I decided I did like these performances, so I’ll disagree with @tmmuchcox-net. And that, for me is the very interesting thing about classical musical, different interpretations and different styles of play can draw out disparate reactions. In my case, I liked Sullivan’s performances enough to add this to my recent article on excellent Pure DSD256 recordings from Hunnia, HERE.

Peteris Vasks (b.1946) continues to fascinate me. With each new composition I hear, I like his music more and more. But, definitely for modern music tastes.
