What Internet Radio Station are you spinning now?

Someone on the Roon forum figured out how to get metadata from the FLAC stream… I tested and it works pretty slick.

Seems like a bunch of trouble when the AAC 320kbps stream includes metadata natively. Unless I’m being really picky and listening to the system and not the music I can’t hear a difference…

good point. For most radio scenarios, the AAC stream is just fine.

This appears to stream in FLAC 32-bit/48kHz. Seems too good to be true, though. I clicked the below link and it downloaded a file (“stream.xspf”) that opened in VLC on my MacBook Pro. VLC reports 32/48 FLAC.

It would be great if more Internet radio stations streamed in lossless format (The Cheese is not my thing musically).

After seeing your flac stream post yesterday, I’m currently trying to get Logitech Media Server / SqueezeLite to take a URL, but it seems obsessed with TuneIn URLs only which is a shame as it means it also won’t play the 6 music high bandwidth stream and instead plays 128 Mb/s.
No luck as yet, but I’ve not looked very hard on the internet…

apparently the Radio Paradise folks have also cracked the FLAC-metadata nut, and they will be pushing out an update next week. (As reported on the Radio Paradise forums.)

That’s good news. If you like Radio Paradise, please send them $$ from time to time. They are user supported.

I highly recommend Radio Paradise. I use it so much I set up a recurring monthly payment in PayPal. I use the iPhone app, which is very good, for my daily one hour walk. Yesterday I listened to the rock mix stream and it was outstanding. One word of caution, the iPhone app uses ALAC rather than FLAC but be aware you are streaming at a fairly high bandwidth which will consume cellular data rapidly. It is also nicely integrated with Apple Carplay. I have all the FLAC streams set up in Roon as well for background music.

I just looked and RP now has two FLAC streams. One with metadata and one without. The first in the list has it.

yep, that first URL is the “hack” one… I’m guessing the second link (the official one) will have metadata soon.

info below… looks like the developer who figured this out got all four streams (regular, rock, mellow, eclectic) to show metadata, and Roon is making them all available.

Hey if you listen to GDRadio (grateful dead radio at gdradio.net), John Whelan is looking for some help to pay the bills. (I stream it on Roon… )

$50 donation and he’ll send you a t-shirt, but I’m sure he’d appreciate whatever you can do. (No affiliation; just a fan.)

Fantastic Music. Sort of a mix of “The Bridge” and “Yacht Rock” on Sirius XM. Streaming SQ is pretty good too.
