Down the Way by Angus and Julia Stone
In 1991 Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the COE released a set of Beethoven symphonies, which caused a stir since Harnoncourt brought some of his early-music perspective to these works. I liked the set at the time but haven’t listed to it much recently. I ripped the CDs recently and last night listened to the 7th Symphony via the DS/Yale final/Bridge2. Very, very, nice indeed. The sound, on this symphony anyway, is natural; the last Beethoven 7th I listened to has a passage where I said to myself “Nobody seated mid-hall would hear that flute so loud relative to the other instruments.” Obviously the engineers were messing with stuff. None of that here.

another masterpiece from the master Anuoar Brahem. This music is hypnotic and flat out brilliant. Has to wait 6 years for his new album, and it was worth the wait …

@edorr, I’d known about Tunisian music but never really heard extended cuts before. This fellow is all right. I particularly liked The Astounding Eyes of Rita, Le Pas Du Chat Noir, and Thimar. How do these hold up relative to his other works?
Give it a listen. I absolutely love it, but I may be biased. Your exposure is $40 for a high rez download of about 90 minutes of other worldy music.
