Which Redbook CD did I enjoy lately?

I just love this elegant music. And though I haven’t heard a lot of other performers’ results, these performances don’t make me want to. ;)

Nice choice; elegant, delicate, transparent playing.

Agreed, I haven’t been able to compare them much to other performances, but they are indeed excellent. The music draws me in.

Right now, amazing Bird. Savoy/Denon CD.

@lonson, this CD set seems not to be available anywhere. Is it out of print?

Tony, seems readily available at amazon. . . .

Love this woman, and this is a great one of hers.

Yes!

An artist who appears to play everything well, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc.

Lovely recording, lovely voice, nice interpretations.

I picked up her Best of album, which includes Life is a Groove off of this album.

The album is nice easy listening; tame and predictable, but well performed and recorded. Think Diana Krall with a more interesting voice and interpretive ability.

I guess I like her a bit more than you do. . . I think she’s twice the jazz person that Krall is (I am not really a Krall fan) but agree overall. Footprints is good, Ballads: Remembering John Coltrane is I think her best one. The others could use more of an edge for ME but I think she’s sincerely doing things the way she wants to and she probably knows her audience best (I’m not really targeted).

Listening to this compilation while waiting for Cassandra’s new one (the SHM-CD is on the way to me from Japan, US release is not til April 5). I’m a huge fan of Ms. Wilson.

I agree; she is better than Krall by alot. Her voice has more nuance and her interpretations are superior. But the music remains safe and unchallenging.

Those who like Krall and Shelby Lynne would be well served by listening to Karrin and climb a couple of steps step up the ladder. :)

I continue to be impressed with your taste and breadth of appreciation. Thus, I immediately bought a Karrin Allyson album. And am happy with the purchase. :)

Why thanks Elk, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I agree that they are safe and unchallenging, but in fact that is their value to me, I can put on one of her albums for my Dad or my fiancee and they enjoy it and I get to listen to some jazz. :) I never get enough jazz in my life.

Right now, this music and this recording. . . wow. And “Rococo Cello” is fun to say.

Rococo is fun to say by itself, both pronunciations. :)

The Allyson recordings are perfect for your use. Excellent call.
