There is a sale at HDTT now, and I purchased 6 albums today. The first one I listened was The Pink Panther, and I do not think I have heard any version sounding as good as this DSD256!
I have 5 more to hear.
I have 5 more to hear.
Talking about a wide soundstage, I will go to this one. But there is nothing like listening to this newly remastered DSD256 from HDTT. It is fun to hear the wide soundstage expanded outside of FR-30s on both sides. The best part is that I have never heard of this much detail before!
Hearing something different or additional in this audiophile work horse is impressive.
Couldnât resist. And itâs on sale, too!
There is something particularly special to my ears in todayâs recordings made directly to DSD256 using modern microphones, electronics, power supplies and cables. Included in this Recent Discoveries No. 22 article, published today, are reviews of six outstanding Pure DSD256 recordings released over the past couple of months. The transparency of sound in these recordings is remarkable.
The marvelous Anna Fedorova recorded by Jared Sacks in Pure DSD256. Jared says âI just used a A/B with a m/s in the middle. trying to the right balance between the piano and the ambience of the space. No post productions except for some simple edits from Anna.â Simple miking, excellent acoustic space in which to make the recording, and wonderful performances. Just doesnât get any better than this. Here is a very welcome news:
PSA Octave Records has lowered their DSD256 music price to $29. It is the same as their SACD and DSD128. The latest releases all sound incredible! They are really amazing!!
You guys let us know whatâs good and bad about our pricing model and we respond. Enough folks were unhappy about the higher prices of the DSD256 so we helped out! Enjoy!
Very nice, @Paul.
I would pay extra to get the data discs with the SACD like you used to offer when you first launched Octave Records.
Donât know if it can be done cost effectivelyâŠ
Keep up the great work promoting great recordings of musical performances.

Sisters of the Moon by Susana Gomez Vazquez in Pure DSD256
I just did a comparison just for giggles between a single sided SACD, a 24bit 192k, and a DSD256 of Art Blakey.
The single sided disc through my PST, the horn sounded a bit hard and leaned out, but otherwise very clean and detailed with nice air and separation of images. The 192k file through my Esoteric streamer sounds less hard and has better textures on the horn, and just as good soundstage. The HDTT DSD256 version is just on another level in body, texture, air, and dimensionally! Feel more like listening to vinyl, but without the ticks and pops.
Thatâs a very good comparison, and saved me from writing the same thingđ
I am not a subscriber of Jayâs Audio Lab, but I got his YouTube email yesterday on SACD vs. streaming comparison through his million-dollar system. Itâs surprising to hear such difference of the two sources from my iPad, and many guessed option 1 is streaming because it sounded âbrighterâ; thatâs opposite from what I heard in my system (granted at a much lower price) because streaming of DSD256 sounds warmer and more analog-like than SACD to me in my current setup.
I donât know the answer to his question, and my guess â2â would be streaming since thatâs my impression of how they differ in my system. My conclusion is that thereâs more SQ difference from different sources as the level of systems go higher (even through iPad).
I could be totally wrong since I donât have any of his gearđ
To me Jay is just another salesman under the false pretense that whatever he has, he owns. He still has to sell, so he canât trash whatever he owns.
His comparison really come down to whatâs better, his SACD player or his streamer, not so much the music.
Hereâs another DSD256 beauty from NativeDSD. Wonderfully recorded version of Butterfly Lovers!
I did not know he was a dealer until very recently, but I seldom watched his video anyway.
This is an excellent recording, Thanks!
I guess exactly the opposite, #2 SACD and #1 Streaming.
I can always blame my iPad if my guess is wrong. Wonder when he will reveal the answer.
Edit: If I remember right, Jay was not using DSD256 as the streaming source anyway (donât want to go back to watch him again to find out). In that case my guess was just a wild guess. But if he were, then that is how DSD256 would have sounded compared to SACD. In other words, I prefer â2â.
I checked out the video. I cannot say what equipment is doing what since I donât have any experience with those equipment, but from my earphones, #1 sounds more digital to me. #2 sounds more natural or smoother.
This is one new DSD256 recording from Native DSD that will put you into the holliday spirit with awe and wonderment, thatâs how good it is. You get a rich full bodied natural sound without any trace of digital nasties at all. I really enjoyed this one.
