Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

take a look at the Dream Royals, they are like 3 times the diameter of these…

Tweaks better than most upgrades.

I was thinking the same thing!

My next upgrade arrived today, the Holo Audio Serene preamp (Placebo Edition). Since it arrived at about 39 degrees F, I’m going to let it warm up in the house overnight and hopefully slide it into the system tomorrow.

There will be some new Master Tunings coming soon for my Buchardt Audio A700 Speaker - It’s cool to be able to change its speaker sound Fast

" Now this is cool and unheard of in the industry! With the flexibility of such powerful DSP, we are in complete control of what we want the speaker to do. This means, that we will provide downloadable master tunings to completely change the fundamentals of the speakers sound design.

So what does this mean?

The standard master tuning the speakers come with, is a 2.5 way design, tuned to 25hz straight with a variable bass tuning. This means, if you play at 100dB, you can’t expect two 6” woofers to generate 25hz. The system will then smoothly set the bass tuning higher, so the woofers don’t break. We think this is the best overall tuning for most people.

But what if your needs are different? What if you rarely play loud? Maybe you live in a smaller apartment where SPL is not important to you? Then download a different mastertuning from our website - copy the master tuning file onto a USB key - place the USB key in the USB port on the back of one of the speakers (when it’s turned off) - turn it on - remove the USB key and repeat this process on the other speaker. Boom! you now have a speaker that is configured as a 3 way design instead as an example.

What if you want something where deep bass is not important, but SPL is? Maybe you want to use subs with them? Same thing; download a different mastertuning that do just that.

Here, only your imagination is the limit. We wish to make the most flexible speaker in the world. A speaker that we can keep on improving, even long after its release."

They are free …

Here you can see how to install them - it’s the same procedure on the A500 / A700

would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas

So looks like ethernet port is not a near term upgrade so my streamer choices (wifi) are Bluesound and Auralic I guess. However I do want to get the most out of my wifi signal which was weak in this part of the house.

I installed the wifi 6 eero4 mesh network and that made a huge difference. If anyone needs a solution for larger/stronger coverage, this product works great.

I am liking this new Eclipse mat

I’m burning with curiosity about this mat. I know it won’t be compatible with my Sota vacuum TT, but who sells it? I’d love to read more about the theory behind it.

Thanks! Looking at the website it is described as a record isolator. What a difference ‘mat’ versus ‘isolator’ makes in understanding what it does. Basically, suspends the vinyl disc on 15 small spheres to mechanically decouple it from the platter. Different approach for controlling vinyl disc/platter resonances. If I had a non-vacuum TT I’d give a spin. Definitely piques my interest.

How is the UD1S of Pearl? I’m really tempted to pick one up.

I love the MFSL 1S of Pearl, but don’t have a comparison outside of roon.

Had to return my latest RCM upgrade (Audio Desk) because the front two barrels didn’t engage unless I pushed them. Clearly not as designed. It’s slick, but mine wasn’t quite slick enough. Looks like lots of the parts can be replaced, but are pretty spendy.

Plan to get another or changing to something else?

Minnesotafats is on his fifth Audiodesk Glass cleaner in less than a year. Mine is four years old and trouble free. I want a Degritter though. Maybe after I get another Stealth Sakra V17 LE cable and a couple of CAD Ground controls and an MBL 1621A transport. I also fear in 2022 I will switch to MBL Extremes. I have issues.

Al doesn’t the Extreme system require like six 20 amp circuits.

Well then your almost there. Pretty sure that’s what Mike had to do to the store when the MBL people set the system up for him. Seems they are doing the same at the Hotel for the show. I would rather have the Ice Cream cones though. Have you looked into Kharma or Estelon or even the big Verity’s?

I love the Vivids. But I am going to watch Extremes be assembled and then I suppose I will listen to them. I am so not speaker shopping.

The Estelons seem to be designed with similar principles as the Vivids. They are really something that I hope to see and hear some day. The review in the latest Absolute Sound is very interesting. I just wish the reviewer would have hands on experience with Vivids. All this chatter about Magico. I don’t see Magico as an option even as a gift.

If it’s TAS it’s going to be all Magico all the time. That magazine is it’s own Magico fan club except Harley. I’m not speaker shopping either for a long time. That pair of dealer’s personal Rosso’s I picked up last month along with the Verity’s will have to hold me over for a while. I didn’t need the Jay’s but I bought it anyway and that should be the end until at least 2023. Already dreading the inevitable consolidation sell off.
