G200 requires 200w RMS, S100 requires 120w RMS. Also the super tweeter adds a few decibels and makes things quite open. It takes time to adapt to your new setup. They’re gorgeous and will open up in a few days. Edit: are you using the same speaker cables stil?
the new ribbon tweeter on Gold 200 deliver the high notes more better than the silver 100, details are the same . I think the new Gold 200 take time to breakin and i also need time to get used to with new gold 200 charateristic , i have breakin the silver 100 and the super tweeter and Rel Sub for a year, they all sound OK.
But not being regretful to get the Gold 200 ( it’s almost five times expensive over the silver 100)
I borrowed the Pioneer N50 network player ( AKM chip DAC) to replace the CNX V2 , woa , it’s plenty fo detail at high and vocal even it is just hi-res 192 only. I know the weak point in my system is the CXN V2, It just reach to its limit and can not deliver the best and detail sound compare to other DAC even to some one it’s is the amazing DAC/player.
Next upgrade is the DAC/Network player.
Done the sounding part, amplification, preamplification and cables upgrading
Just stop for now and serveral months , meanwhile i will do research for the DAC and make the decision then.
Curiosity got the best of me, so I’m going to try Dan Wright’s tube mod on my CXN streamer. On paper it should correct all the things I don’t like about it (constricted soundstage and noise mainly) and provide better separation and depth.
Recently upgraded my speakers from Focal Chorus 826v to Sonus Faber Olympica Nova III. Waiting for delivery. Thinking ahead what amplifier might be a good match. Running M700’s presently.
Congrats with the purchase! The couch/chair directly in front of the Gold 200 isn’t ideal…
I found it took about 100 hours for mine to be mostly broken in. As they break in the bass will continue open up and become more detailed.
Wow! Just wow!
I’ve heard them with Audio Research REF 160 and Sim Audio 700i. I little too forward for my taste with the SimAudio. The Nordost Tyr wires didn’t help as they tended to accentuate the forwardness with the Sim Audio. The AR REF 160 was with the AQ Robin Hood Zero and Robin Hood Bass Biwired. The PSA 300 mono blocks are worth a shot. Have not heard the combo, but they offer a generous return policy.
Nice upgrade BTW, Heard those very speakers this afternoon, as SF have a sale in progress through the end of March.
Finished installing a new MUCH larger acoustic diffusor on the rear wall yesterday. The 9 sq ft GoM fabric covered original was a DIY 2D “Skyline” diffusor I built over a decade ago. The new 30 sq ft replacement is a 1D fractal diffuser array custom built to my specifications by 7Audio and shipped all the way from Poland! Before and after pics…
Wireworld Starlight USB cable. Trying out the USB input on the KEF LS50 Wireless.
I’ve been a Roon fanatic for years but recently playing around with Audirvana again on an old Mac Mini. Sound is kind of blowing me away and I’m a person who has said the days of conventional computers used for audio should be over.
Oh, I first heard about Wireworld here in the PSA forum.
Nice room/kit…
Would love to see a couple of pics of the front wall as well…
TIA.
Beautiful turntable Al, can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it’s sound quality. Bet it beats the heck out of whatever digital you are using right now.
Hi all
I just found a interesting thing relating to room temperature that effect to the stellar stack sound, in the normal in room temperature at 25-27 degree Celsius, ( 77 - 80 F) the Stellar stack (GCD + M700s) get warm and play loud, fullest, but if I have a fan nearby for heat dissipation, the stack run so cool, no heat at all, but sound seem a bit different and not loud as when it warm ( not hot), not much different but can be noticed. I did repeat the test for couple days and was able to reproduce that thing.
Have you seen the same thing ?
A real beauty. I had my first real job at a hifi store, and found I was much better at setting up Linn Sondek turntables that talking to customers. The basics have not changed. Enjoy the setup.
Interesting. Towards the end of my audition I asked about the Pass amplifier and Mick mentioned that it would be bright compared to PSAudio M700’s that I had taken with me. He hooked up a Moon 760A power amplifier. My initial reaction was that they sounded a bit too laid back and didn’t have quite the detail that the M700’s had. Then again I may have been aurally exhausted after 2 hours of listening.
PSAudio’s BHK 250 or the M1200’s are an option down the road. The 300’s are not in my budget. Besides I don’t have the space for them.
Hey, if you want to save time and money and jump as far forward as you might need to go try an Inakustik USB cable. Order it from Small Green Computer and it will set you back about $350. That may seem expensive but that cable stands with cables costing $2K and above. It’s a secret, shhhhhhhh.
I second this suggestion. I’m currently running a full loom of Inakustik ICs, speaker cable, USB and HDMI and it’s a very balanced, transparent sound.
My next upgrade is an Sbooster LPS for the last unexpected upgrade. I purchased a Roon Nucleus the no frills model I found at a local HiFi shop (I don’t know which was more rare the used Nucleus or the HiFi shop!) It was $500 so I couldn’t pass it up since I’ve paid more for cables on my Matrix Spdif! This is the first day with it in my system and I’m super impressed! Replacing my Mac Mini as a Roon Core and endpoint utilizing my Matrix Spdif 2 the sound is phenomenal IMO. Had I known I would of paid full price for a new one! The Mac wasn’t bad but this is definitely next level. So going back to the thread topic I ordered a Sbooster LPS for the nucleus and a 2TB SSD. Can’t wait to hear the results!
Looks great and I’m sure it sounds even better!
