The Shunyata Denali kills my Puritan power conditioner, not even close. First, no buzz or noise at all, everything is dead silent. Second, and most important, the ease I hear is fantastic. Open, clear and fast is what I notice. Only been on for a few days and playing music for a couple hours. No shunyata power cable either, using a PSA ac5. Who knew? I’ll get around to a shunyata cable (alpha or sigma - will see how flush I feel then) after buying the DSD mkii, can’t wait. My stereo keeps me working.
This is not so much an upgrade, but rather a strategic move: I bought a used pair of Bel Canto Ref600ms to use as my summertime amps.
Seeing as it has been over 100 degrees here for the past five days, firing up my Primaluna Dialogue Premium amps with their eight KT150s between them meant that I only could responsibly listen to them much later in the evening, if at all.
Now I have no real worries about heat (or current draw). The Bel Cantos sound terrific, though clearly different than my beloved tube amps–they’re dead quiet, and I’m getting a bit more bass weight and definition at the expense of some air on top and a degree of soundstage depth and layering.
I put the 68 lb. Primalunas on plant dollies along with their Isoacoustics pucks so whenever I want to I can easily wheel them into position and hook 'em up for a different yet familiar perspective on my favorite tunes.
And, seeing that it now costs about $1400 to replace these tubes (thanks Putin!), I’m happy to conserve my pre-invasion backup tube stash…
The Denali 6000 S/v2 is probably my next move*. Thanks for sharing that info.
- Though that could be preempted by a DSD Mk II
Today’s look for a new amp journey has taken me back to looking at Coda. I found a dealer that has a 16.0 at a decent price. Still on the fence. I have paralysis by analysis.
She is pretty!
Everything I’ve read about Coda suggests they are outstanding. They might not be at a “crushing $100k Gryphon/Boulder/Soulution” level, but the commercial and personal reviews I’ve read have all been quite favorable. I can’t imagine it being a bad choice.
I love my #8 so much…that the only amp that will replace it will only be a #16…
Congrats on the Denali v2…It will sound even better after a few hundred hours of burn in…Once you have the ac gremlins tamed the rest of your system gets just that much better…
If at all you can get a Sigma xc…well…be prepared to pick up your jaw off the floor!
Analysis paralysis is a real thing. Being able to pay makes it worse. In the end there are no wrong choices!
Don’t worry about overanalyzing.
It is perfectly ok to analyze, especially in a day where many people won’t spend time thinking, lol
Doug Dale told me that Coda and Gryphon share some of the same internal parts! A bad choice I could not even fathom…
Let me help you.
I think this amp is…shall we say, “less than beautiful”.
I gather it is probably a fine amp, based on what I have read. To me though, it just looks really cheap. A purely, personal aesthetic turn off.
If you are back to stuffing it in a cabinet, go for it.
Otherwise, move along.
Helpfully yours,
SEE
At first I didn’t see the black heatsinks. It looks sorta like a window air conditioner. How does it sound?
Esthetics are always a personal choice for sure. If the meters don’t float one’s boat it can be had without meters… I like black much better than the silver…
Much more pleasing to the eye, IMO.
I can now, in good conscience, approve @vkennedy61’s purchase of this amplifier.
Vince, you have my permission to pull the trigger.
Love me some blue meters
OOOO Nice!!!
I just learned that the awesome deal is without meters. Now back on the fence. I didn’t know that was an option. Personally, I think it’s an anti-option. Sigh.
