I’ve used Townshend Isolda for some years. They are a very similar concept, they’ve been made for about 40 years and Monitor Audio made a similar flat cable in the 1970s. There was a Dutch cable called Goertz, also much the same.
The Fidelium are a good price, the Isolda list price is higher but certain dealers here do a nice discount, so come out the same.
They have extremely low inductance, are effectively immune from EMF and FRI, so are very quiet. As they don’t need insulation, they are fragile. Mine are flat on the floor, mostly under a rug.
They were recommended to me about 10 years ago by a well known audio guy called Jimmy Hughes, who had already been using them for about 20+ years. He said it’s a fit-and-forget cable, which is what I did.
Quite a few reviewers had it as their reference cable, including Jimmy, Jason Kennedy (Jason Kennedy, Editor | The Ear) and others, then Townshend brought out a cable called Fractal. Same principle at a much higher price. That then became the reference cable.
Sounds like the Fidelium are fit-and-forget. Perhaps you can also lay them flat as well.
I have had them for less than two years and they are a keeper. It is not too often one can find true “great value” and they are one. At the beginning they just laid flat on the floor, I lifted them so I could clean underneath them easier.
You may be right that RFI/EMI does not affect them as much since I do not hear much difference with the lifters. But they look a little better this way.
I’m still unconvinced by treating speaker cables as waveguides, at audio frequencies, it doesn’t sit right with my radar training somehow (I followed the link, then followed their link to the equations paper).
Nevertheless those Fidelium cables look very cool indeed, however they work
I use the Fidelliums on my second system. They were about the same as my MG planus 4 ribbon design (no longer available) at about 40 percent of the price. I think they are a great value…but the looks are an aquired taste.
The big amps aren’t even being used. They are essentially in storage in my buddy’s living room. The little integrated MBl Corona c51 white amplifier is the power source. My Noble gear will replace the white amp shortly
I got a deal on the MBL 9011s that I couldn’t pass up. They are 10 years old but MBL backs their products up so well that I am comfortable at 30 percent of full retail while I wait for the speakers to arrive. MBL told me that I should be careful and probably not use them on the 120s. I might drop them off at @paul172 place if he wants to store them for a couple of years. They might also be overkill for his speakers also.
I am mystified by the size weight and bending radius of thick $$$$$$$ cables apart in addition to the money. That is why I like Atlas Cables, you can buy really high end cables, but they are still for reasonable money and certainly come with al the practicality for a home / living room listening experience. Without turning turning your home into an industrial site with cables so thick that they don’t fit behind or in the stereo cabinet or rack.
I believe that I would have a difficult time dealing with people dumping (Yeah, “storing”) their high end components at my house. I fear that I would my empty my retirement savings to move up. I prefer vicarious living which I greatly enjoy on this formun. LOL
I wonder if this was the set I saw prior to going to pick up my latest 1.25KW amps. The 20K was enticing. But went for they higher current and more headroom for my current speakers. I almost shred the post on here. They are beautiful works of art.
