Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

I would likely get the PS Airlens also to supplement too.
However that is now getting very close to the one box solution of a dCS Bartok.

Nah, she’s a good sport.

10k is quite a bit less than 16k. But when you factor in trade it’s 3500 plus whatever they give for Airlens. Say 1000. You would have to sell for 2200ish for dcs. So that’s 8k vs 16k.

Which I am currently demoing.

I should have said that I’m in Canada, so prices are slightly different here. I didn’t factor in trade as I’d have to sell it myself or possibly trade it a dealer.

Very interesting. Let me know your thoughts.

I’m struggling between the Mk2 and Air Lens vs Bartok too. I’m curious to hear your thoughts…

Received Stillpoints Aperture II panels today. The package was much heavier (72 lbs total for four) and larger than I expected.

Fit and finish are like fine furnitures, attention to the details such as joints, fabric covers, markings, etc. You can hear there is something loose inside when shaking it, part of their design.

There is wall mount over the back and mating hardwares are provided in plastic bag taped to the box

Setting up was rather easy, replaced two pillows with two panels at first reflection points. they both measured around 27 inches to the speakers (corner to corner).

Placed third one in the rear behind listening chair on top of CDs

The front is a bit tricky, there is big plasma TV covered with stitched quilts. I am considering building a sturdy steel hook / hanger and use provided hardware to hang the panel in front of quilts. The panel is about 14 lbs. For now it is just sitting on the floor between speakers.

I was listening to this CD recently and has fresh memory to compare.

First impression, more details come out, sound stage becomes deeper, especially behind left and right speakers, the strings, brass are better defined with layers, a tighter and more impactful drums / dynamics, that change are for both high and low volume playing. I recall Stillpionts website claims these panels are adaptive, thus I am less worry about over-damping. I definitely appreciate the change, it is very pleasant and sweet sounding. I would say the tube traps corrected and set the tunes right, Aperture panels further conditioned the sound with details, layers, more natural and alive high, mid, and low ends, make music presentation a further completed pictures in front of listeners. I like the change that I can hear, It reminds me of my experience of changing the power cable on my previous system’s power amp, a significant upgrade in sound. Also, boss (wife) approved the looks of the panels.

Update: Listening to LPs, besides better depth definition, clarity, it is very noticeable the vocal singer’s height is presented more evident than before. I don’t recall I heard that a few days ago.

The more I listen the more I appreciate the improved sound. CD now sounded a lot better and I am digging into a lot of old CDs, the new found details are very intriguing!

I have to move front panel when changing CDs, but no interruption for playing LPs.

BTW, got a couple flip clocks from eBay today and they look nice, one of them probably about my age.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Someone can help me, I strongly need since now on to let disappear any post from @vkennedy61 and @watchdog507 from my iPad! Literally scared about what I might read!

I wish I could help Luca, but I need to read what @vkennedy61 thinks about the dcs vs the MkII!

Frankly, it would have to be insanely better to make me allocate the budget, and based on prior comparisons I’ve read of the Mola Mola Tambaqui vs the Bartok, and later the Tambaqui - here, in these forums - vs I believe a modded DSD, I have a feeling it might be a bit better in some ways than the Mk II, but not enough to justify the price.

I have a separate streamer though, as do you. For someone who doesn’t, it may be decent value. (All wild conjecture on my part…)

I am bound by a promise to a person here on the forum to not say anything until they have listened to their MKII.

Literally everyone around you is posting photos and talking about non-ps audio products. Perhaps have a rethink on why folks are finding some your posts negative.

Fair enough…but is it better than the MK1?

Do you have the amp chassis sitting directly on the oreas?

Move on dude

Next I’ll be doing a comparison between my ps audio stellar phono and a Rega Aura.

Only one will win.

It’s not looking good for the ps audio stellar phono…

Good evening, all

Please do not address Mr. LaCroix any further. He is taking a break from the Forum.

Considerably. The difference in cost is audible.

Oh guys, you are right, I’m going to force myself to stay away from this forum for a while. Mmm maybe away from this single thread is more plausible…
Red wine at this altitude might not help, though!
