Superb! I can only imagine that it must sound wonderful!
First spin was Shape of Things to Come. Then The Conference and Nadia from One Zero, which is a 45 live direct cut with the fastest percussion (tabla) and a very central image. Now Way out West. It’s the dog’s bollocks, as we say over here.
So I now have a Japanese cartridge (DV) on a Lithuanian tonearm (Reed) and English deck (Claro) through an American cable (Zavfino) to a Polish phono preamp (RCM) to a French player (Devialet) through Danish speaker cables (OePhi) to Wilson (Utah, wherever that is), and English power and conditioning (Puritan). When I stream I can use my Portuguese streamer and Korean power supply. I need something Italian. Pizza?
Nope.
A sunny day outside your window?
Despairing of when the AirLens might be a real thing, I just pulled the trigger on a Holo Audio Red to try between my Nucleus+ and DS Mk2 via I2S.
I will evaluate it versus my current setup of Nucleus+ > ISO Regen > DS Mk2 via USB.
Who knows, it might ship before the AirLens becomes available!
Now that the Chinese New Year has past shipping times will be reduced according the website. It will beat the AirLens by a considerable time as Holo has all the needed parts. They just don’t build units to sit on a shelf. Same as with their DACs.
Ok. I call this a functional upgrade out of necessity and tinkering. My normal tonearm is getting a Din adapter in installed so I am using my backup turntable (Rega planar 8). The tonearm cables are too short so I needed to orient the table so the arm is in the back of the rack. I am going to use this orientation going forward with other tables. Having the tonearm in back provides easier access to the table for cleaning and dust removal. It also creates a barrier distance to reduce the chance of accidental stylus damage. Give this orientation a try.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going
We went there. Were we in Utah? Didn’t see any loudspeaker businesses. There was quite lot of nothing round there.
It looks a bit lonely …
Have you cosnidered / checked the possibility of professionally rewiring the tonearm with a longer and better cable?
BTW, how do you like the sound of the cork record mat on the P8? Should I try one on the P10?
There’s an inn in Escalante that we really like. Slot Canyons Inn.
Also if you go on Slot Canyon tours, there’s a fellow at Excursions of Escalante, Rick, who is widely considered the best guide in the region. When other guides get in trouble in the wilderness, they call him to rescue them. He’s a very unassuming person, but he has a certain demeanor that is unmistakable.
It is a remarkable place by any standard anywhere in the world.
Congratulations! What’s that cable?
Thanks! It’s the Nordost Heimdall 2. I
You took the easy route! No prize for you!
The cables are long enough in their normal setup at my friend’s house. No need to rewire for that application. I like the cork mat because it is easier to clean and doesn’t have the dust issues of the felt. Not sure if I notice a different sound with my setup. (Hana ML cartridge)
Great idea, and a nice inexpensive spinner to boot!
