No fuses in power cables here in Australia, just inside the gear. The difference an upgrade makes, once heard, cannot be undone. Two espressi a day vs four or five hours of music running…fuses are terrific value I reckon.
My take, you’re getting better value from the La Pavoni!
After the plugs, the only fuse in my audio system is one on my Innuos server that I think is directly attached to the IEC socket. If it were a UK product they’d not bother with it. I think true audiophiles cannot resist the temptation to change something they’re not really required to.
Making products with user-serviceable parts inside seems very old-fashioned. The last thing compares its want these days is for customers to be opening up products. It normally breaches warranty. Are these fuses inside?
The Innuos fuse is removable directly below the IEC inlet. My Pass Labs amp has the same kind of thing on the back panel. I don’t need to undo screws or take off top plates. My TT2 doesn’t use one so I only ever buy two fuses. A hifi loving friend has seven opportunities to change so he doesn’t spend as much per fuse. I spend the same in total on two. In the QSA range the difference between blue, yellow and violet is obvious to me and to others I’ve demonstrated it too. Give it a try. Go on…I dare you…
I’ve had this happen to me before. It may have something to do with the amount. I never quite figured out why (for me), but it transferred to my account with no issue.
Honestly I don’t miss them but do blame them for my path to MBL. (I sold them and took a $3500 hit after using them for 1.5 years) The dipole wave form of the Maggie’s and their ability to replicate the transient/lead portion of the notes is hard to beat. I believe that Maggie’s are probably the best bang for your buck transducer in the market…if you have a way to properly power them. The MBLs are exceptional and fit my preference for a live type of soundstage.
Moreover, the QSA fuses have no published datasheets. A fuse is a safety device and over here has to meet British Standards BS1362 and BS1363. Often this is printed on the side of the fuse. If it has not been tested as compliant, your hifi sets your house on fire and they find you’ve used some dodgy Chinese fuse, they won’t pay out.
This has happened before with plug sockets, Furutech or someone similar.
Picked this up used today off of usaudiomart. It was meant to be since I was already in the market for a new one. Amazing that one shows up on the used market (only been available for a month or so). Saved a couple $k. The only compromise was the lesser umbilical cable, I can live with that. Might even have it by the weekend. Oh ya, in black of-course.
If you haven’t tried any of these after market fuses, it’s best not to get started. It’s a rabbit hole you don’t want to fall into, believe me. It’s too late for me as I’ve fallen into this rabbit hole years ago and still haven’t found my way out.
Another rabbit hole I fell into years ago was power cords. My latest just came in with FedEx for my phono preamp. Now my entire system analog and digital including the Power Plant is using the SR Galileu SX power cord. I must say, I have never heard my system sound so good! Beautiful cables!!
That’s more a crater than a rabbit hole. I went very low end Shunyata for 3 years, now sold it all and am taking a more puritan approach with Puritan cables and conditioner. So I can neither be said to have my head in the sand, nor have climbed the seven steps to heaven.
Oddly enough, the rabbit hole was pretty shallow for me. Three fuses, two devices and I’m out. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy what the fuses do (and still do), but it didn’t hold my attention.
Viborg VM502R+VF502R Audio Power Plug, Pure Copper Rhodium Plated US Style Male AC Power Plug & IEC320 C13 Power Connector (Rhodium Plated)
Has anyone tried these power plugs (Amazon)? They are not exactly cheap but are cheaper than Furutech F-50 for sure. I have a couple power cords that can use some connector upgrades. But I am not ready to spend a few hundred bucks on a set of plug yet.
I believe one of my PC, Cullen Cable Crossover II, has these plugs on it. They are very well built and the cord sounded great for the price. I will order a set of Viborg to see if they make any difference.
