Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

Heaven 11 Billie Integrated amp, due tomorrow. Decided to give one of these a try. Should be an awesome match up with my Zu DW6 speakers.

Paul, 4-1/2” for the 7” flat and 9-1/2” for the 12” flat. I put the longer flat under the shelf and the 7” flat against the wall. I’ve been measuring the declination angle of the shelves every few hours (with my NIST calibrated digital level) and so far find no change from the initial install. I was a little unhappy about the lack of detail in the specifications. It says “Supports 45 pounds of weight”, so I’m guessing that’s shear weight.

That Dynavector tonearm looks a bit wackadoodle!

Agreed! Have never seen/heard one. I have had an XV-1 cart which was excellent…

You’ve got me worried now, Paul. I keep staring at the shelves and measuring, but now I’m worried everything will come collapsing down at a moment’s notice. If it were to give way, wouldn’t it have done it by now - or at least shown some measurable signs of change?

It would most likely be a sudden failure, if it was going to fail. Initial guess is the screw-to-wall connection will be ok, but the weight on the 12" horizontal leg is the concerning part.
Looking at moments on the 12" leg:
For a 45# load, assuming mid-length of the 12" extension, 45# x 6" = 270 in-# capacity
your moment loading of 6# x 17" = 102 in-# plus 9# x 6" = 54 in-#
102 + 54 = 156 in-# of moment loading versus an assumed 270 in-# moment capacity.
So is probably ok.
This is assuming that the 45# capacity is per bracket and not a total of 45# distributed over 4 brackets

Nope. 45 pounds per bracket. I checked. :slightly_smiling_face:

And thanks for easing my mind a bit, Paul. Although believe me, I’ll keep watching these shelves very carefully!

the alternative is to over-load test them, hopefully not to destruction.
e.g. if a passing small child can hang off the shelves then it should be ok (barring earthquake)

I put a lot of downward pressure on the shelves before I placed the soffits on them, and I didn’t feel either one of them deflect even a bit.

Famous last words - I hope not!

Dewd man, Congratulations!
That is a seriously fine piece of kit!
Digital has zero chance now!
With the Soundsmith it will be quiet and relatively calm with the occasional click and pop.
A seriously great purchase!

These speaker cables got installed today:

These are Stealth Audio Dream 18’s. I had 16’s but these came available last August. Long before I even knew what a BACCH was. I bought them from George but didn’t install them until I paid for them. They are silly though. But 18 is bigger than 16 so it has to sound better right?

And yes, you can see a Tuner. One pair has them, one pair doesn’t.

On my next trip to Illinois I plan to bring my Dream 16 speaker cables and leave them behind with someone down there. For two friends they won’t be long enough. For one friend I think he’d refuse. So perhaps no takers. Odd.

Sigh. It’s too bad these are way out of my budget, Al. I’d ask to borrow them just for the ability to hear them.
