AC Power cable for the DirectStream - recommendations?

Where we you able to find this b-stock power cable?

Here is the cord on sale for $129, new and not B-Stock.

It is interesting that Audience also produce a $2000+ cable.

I bought mine at The Cable Company. I’m sure as you go up Audience’s food chain, performance goes up. That said for ~$125, you can’t go wrong, and I’ll go out on a limb and say you’ll likely not find anything that comes close to its performance anywhere near that price point…

Just be mindful that when selecting power cables, gauge rules, then topology. Shielding for EMI at 50 or 60Hz is really impossible to any extent. (magnetic fields simply pass through shielding)

From Belden;

“For instance, one of the worst noise offenders is 60 Hz power (50 Hz for much of the world). There is no shield of any kind that we can apply to a cable that has any effect on that low frequency. Even a solid steel conduit, perfectly installed, is only around 30 dB of noise rejection at 60 Hz.”

@paul - love the AC12 power cables; got a 1.5m AC12 from PSA wall outlet to PSA P20. Also, (3) 1.0m AC12 power cables to all PSA components (BHK250, DS DAC, and DS DMP) from the PSA P20 power plant. In the process of adding 1.5m AC12 power cords to a pair of REL S3/SHO subs; 1.0m AC12 power cord from PSA P20 to 18V Sbooster linear power supply powering the Roon Nucleus+. Also, adding a separate single 20A circuit with PSA outlet behind component rack (shortest AC12 run) w/ 10 gauge romex, reducing line resistance another 1.5 mohm (panel to PSA outlet) from present 14 gauge. Just got the quote from the electrician; one side of the house through the attic to the other side, then down into the music room (~100ft) is $300 (labor & breaker); PSA outlet is $50, and 250 ft of 10/2 romex is $175. So for 1/2 the price of a 1.5m AC12 power cord I have a single 10 gauge run with no other connection in between. At this point I don’t know how many outlets the present 15A run went to before arriving at the PSA P20 outlet. Every outlet is additional resistance. When you have a PSA output impedance at 5 mohms; a must going to a single 10 gauge run to maximize the power benefit of the PSA P20. Every resistance drop from the pole to the PSA P20 impacts…

Just run AC12’s to all PS Audio kit and call it done?

Worth looking elsewhere…or (as I suspect) diminishing returns will kick in, or HAS done…but thats ok.

Thanks :slight_smile:

Since I’m going to run a separate 10 gauge (no splice) line to my PSA P20; looking at changing the 20A duplex outlet. Going to go to Synergistic Research BLUE UEF DUPLEX outlet… So, for the price of (1) 1.0m PSA AC12 power cord, I have a single 20A “no splice” 10/2 romex run from panel, terminated with a Synergistic Research BLUE UEF DUPLEX.

If you are going to use a new receptacle, why not use a hospital grade. It has more tension and longer blade contact. You’ll know it’s hospital grade if it has a green dot and flush blade entrance. (not recessed like the Blue UEF)

@Barsley - good point, I should return the BLUE UEF DUPLEX…

I use “The Digital AC-X” power cable from JPS Labs on my DS. I have not even thought about changing power cords since I installed it, which I guess is about the best compliment I can give it.
