Any benefits using linear power supply with router?

Grabbed this after hours of googling https://www.ebay.com/itm/273372400529
Hdplex is sexy, theres one on there too but too far from me shipping is $68.

arrived, looks and sounds grwat

I decided to separate the networks power line in the house (and all the rest of consumers) from the hifi power line instead of investing in new power supplies for each network component.

Any good recommendation for 12V 3.5Amp LPS?
I checkedā€¦ ifi, SBooster, Hdplex none of them support 3.5A.

And sorry for saying thisā€¦ little scared to order something from China (Ebay) given the Corona scareā€¦ :frowning:

I end up moving out the router from my audition room, then run fibre optic with media converters.Way better.

can you explain more? My NUC is in a different room (away from audition room) and I want the Orbi router powering the NUC to be on a LPS. When you say media converterā€¦ is it something like

Router (not powered by LPS) -> Media converter (powered by LPS) -> NUC (Powered by LPS)?

Example: StarTech.com Multimode (MM) LC Fiber Media Converter?

If is away from your audition room, you donā€™t need LPS.

Why is that (not in a challenging way but in a curious way)? I thought NUC needs network that is noise free?

It only can polute your mains if is plug in the same location with your audio system. If your router and server are away at different floors as mine, youā€™ll gain nothing.

+1
But i also use a LPS for the mediaconverter at the streamer (PSaudio) site.
( a 50 dollar diy LPS)

I use iFi on both converters

I recently moved all of my network gear to another room. I use wifi to Auralic Aries G2. Separating the components made a difference. I initially hooked all of the network gear up in the other room to a PS audio stellar p3 I had idle, but committed to selling. I replaced the p3 with an Ansuz audio power distributor(older model). There was a difference that I really did not expect(loss of richness that was there with the p3). Again, this was completely unexpected.

Point being, Iā€™m now open minded to the idea that an lps in another room with only network gear connected to it and isolated from main system electrically could have some sort of an effect on SQ.

Itā€™s annoying.

Guys, as another solution, which I think would yield much better result, is to get a dedicated Audiophile network switch! From a technical perspective, this MAKES SENSE! There are some good reviews here, and I plan to pickup one of these when I upgrade later this year.

Switch will isolate ethernet noise and not power noise coming from a cheap switch power supply.

You use the Ethernet out of the router and then feed your network through the switch. If you go through the reviews, you will find interestingly going with a linear power supply did NOT improve the sound on these switches! Which is very interesting. Not sure about router but as they are similar in some ways that maybe the case. Maybe an IFI low noise switching PSU would do the trick as well.

EDIT: Realized you also use WiFi for your stuff, so a switch doesnā€™t solve all problems. Curious how iFi PSU compared to Sbooster, to me itā€™s overkill.

would that be the same plug or same circuit?

My router is plugged into my P12

Same circuit could be close enough.Definately same plug.

Hi,

I got the mentioned router and access-point.

What LPS do you recommend with it? I use the PoE-adapter that came with the access-point to power both units right now.

Thanks.

For those who donā€™t have yet: wouldnā€™t it make more sense for you to spend the money on a dedicated power line for the stereo, separated from the one for the router and other non audio topics?

And to those who have alreadyā€¦do you think a linear ps for a router in the non-audio power circuit is any meaningful?
