My dealer doesn’t carry REL and recommended JLA, based in Florida.
I bought a couple of f113v2s and couldn’t be happier.
Would love to hear from other owners or anyone else.

I do not have their subs, but I do have the CR-1 which is part of the electronics in the sub. I love and swear by it with my Rythmik G25HP.
I have a pair of D110’s paired with Magnepan 1.7i’s. They checked all of the boxes I desired when choosing a sub. They’re tough to buy if you don’t live near a dealer… zero online sales available and not a lot of dealers. Outstanding sub in my opinion.
I went from SVS SB16 to JL Audio F113’s. I was pleased with the F113’s very solid sub and somewhat compact when compared to the Rel no. 25. Here is some throw back photos of the JL Subs with my former ML speakers and my current ML CLX’s.
Most JL Audio subwoofers are recommended Stereophile components indeed. And the the F series is recommended class A.
Also class A according to Stereophile: Martin Logan, SVS and Wilson.
The magic with Rel subwoofers is the high level connection for 2 channel. It gives the subs a more accurate system sound whether connected to the speakers or the amplifier offering a seamless blend when set up properly. I wish JL would offer the same.
Interesting.
Jonathan Valin @TAS has in his reference system a pair of JL Audio Gothams.
I was set to buy two small subs from Klipsch since they came up on Amazon for 40% off. Then I talked to my brother and he pointed me towards SVS and I was set to buy one of their SB-2000’s. I was still looking for anything better for the money than the SVS and found HSU Research and ended up picking the HSU Research. It’s my first real sub and am very happy with my decision. The improvement a sub makes is incredible. I plan on buying a second sub to hopefully help reduce the dip I have in my room from 42hz-52hz that is 10db down at it’s peak and very audible with a signal sweep. The JL Audio subs look real nice and no doubt bring the thunder.
That may explain why this US brand has so few fans in the US, at least on this forum.
I think subwoofers in general are not widely accepted by many audiophiles.
That’s a real shame. A sub took my music enjoyment a couple steps up. People often say their speakers don’t need a sub which is true but your room more than likely does need a sub or two.
To sub or not to sub, that is the question.
I was not convinced until I heard them in my system.
I am convinced now.
One could say the same regarding tube preamps, or active crossovers, or RCA interconnect, lol
I think the lack of knowledge on how to integrate properly is the main reason. To get good balance with your L+R its not plug and play.
For me the subwoofer(s) are mandatory with my speakers lack of bass. I agree that a skillfully set up subwoofer ads so much to any audio system.
got a rel s/510 despite my 2 channel analogue roots and my own personal hifi obiwan kenobi talking about the dark side and all that…
never gonna be subless again
100% agree never doing sunless again. I’m still trying to get right in new room. Need to crack open focus fidelity as soon as rest of furniture gets in room. It’s currently in frozen up ice covered enclosed trailer in driveway.
Has anyone tried angling their sub up a bit? I pulled my sub out of the corner some today since I was finding it a bit too boomy and figured I’d try angling it up with a couple door stops. Curious if anyone else has tried this.
What difference did you hear?
Moving it out of the corner some made the biggest difference and doing both things in the same hour makes it hard to answer but I can hear the mid bass better and there is more impact after angling it up. I ended up running a sign sweep to see if this had any impact on my rooms dip between 42hz-52hz and ended up using a decibel meter to adj the crossover point. I have a little peak at 70hz and this is where the sub was crossed over. Even with the sub off I still have that bump at 70hz so I lowered the crossover till that bump was minimized.
I like this placement much better. Having it pointed directly at the listening position and out of the corner some has been a big improvement. If I had more room I would try bringing the sub next to the speaker. I would have to move the speaker to do this and I’m happy with the speakers placement so I don’t want to move them.
