I find there is more than one way to enjoy music, Live being my first choice. Having a fine music reproduction system is a second best.
BTW, amen to the Live performance sound man comment, that and the over exuberant drummer. I am referring to Live Jazz in a more intimate setting, as in a Club or Salon.
When I was auditioning my newest speakers, the owner of the shop said “They sound live, don’t they?”
I said no but I’ll take them.
For now, I think we should give up trying to achieve “live” sound and just strive for the best sound to our ears.
Hard to believe this thread rolls on. About nothing in general. I too have no illusion I will recreate the dynamics of the concert hall. And if I did I’d be breaking my lease and getting myself ejected into the street. The vast majority of us are happy with the known limitations of our space and gear and how close we can get to being moved emotionally with our home systems. We all listen to music, not a spec sheet sensitivity number.
Doubly baffled by the continued endless argument (just for the sake of it) and level of expectation. I’m imagining the FR30s will sound like audiophile-grade loudspeakers - very good ones, but loudspeakers nonetheless.
Perhaps the issue is trying to equate things that will never be comparable. Understandable to want it to be so, but when you think on it, the notion of concert-hall repro in your home is a kooky dream. Or for that matter, even rock-show, no acoustic instruments repro of a live show. Apples and oranges. Or maybe apple pie and sushi.
Here’s the thing though. Many of the people on this forum are already PSA fans and will not push back.
Paul’s initial answer (before Chris jumped in) to OP was basically trust me it is easy peasy. So when I said OP asked legit question, I was referring to his request for a more robust technical answer after Paul’s initial answer.
After all, OP presented some reasons as to why he thought he was correct that were not ridiculous on their face, and warranted a more complete response (imo).
I think Chris provided one later after you responded that it doesn’t matter if you’re not going to buy.
So that’s what I meant that the dismissiveness of any critical counter-opinion here sometimes gets pretty high, and neutral observers can recognize even if fans might not.
This speaker can’t succeed simply selling to existing PSA fans, so probably good idea not to blow off anyone who isn’t already a fan especially if they’re showing interest as OP was
‘Here’s the thing though. Almost all of the people on this forum are already PSA fans and will frankly accept anything Paul says (that’s fine).’
Remarkable assertion. I don’t read Copper, have looked at Paul’s Posts only once in the years I’ve been contributing to this forum and have never watched a single PSA video. I read the contributions of others on the forum with great interest because I enjoy the free and open discourse. Yet not a thing anyone has posted, including Paul, has led to a purchase decision or altered any opinion I hold of music or gear based in my own experience. Just saying …
