Not necessarily, Ron. At the pivotal (for me) CAF of some years ago I yoinked Damon Von Schwekert’s own personal pair of speakers away from him (okay, he did sell them to me! ), and at the end of that show they palletized them and sent then to me. Very nice of them, I thought. Probably helped that at the time I was still living in Jersey.
I purchased a stack of MoFi LPs from Music Direct, paid cash and was offered 20% discount and no sales tax. Same with Acoustic Sounds. It pays to buy quantity and to negotiate. This was on a Saturday on my way out the door. I’m surprised others weren’t offered a similar discount.
Well, that’s interesting. Several years ago when there was almost always 10% off on-line I was surprised to find everything at full price at the show. My only discount from them was last year when I bought some ISO Acoustics Orea at 20% off. I had to ask Music Direct for the discount since the ISO Acoustics folks making the offer were in another room and there was no documentation to smooth the process. I almost didn’t do it when I realized 8% sales tax was going to be added since it was a local sale. Cash solved that dilemma …
I find it odd that discounts weren’t offered across the board by either vendor based on my experience. I assumed they were doing it in general based on quantity sales. I was also offered a nice discount by a cable manufacturer that hangs around here on occasion.
Going back to the music I did forget to mention that elusive disc did have most of their music discounted from what their website sells before asking or negotiating. Example a $29.99 CD was listed for $19.99
All one can hope for is that they include some of those wonderful Sam Records from France at their Axpona exhibit. A discount would be icing on the cake.
That’s probably a smarter approach. My OCD behavior kicked in and they asked if I wanted additional items while at the same time offering the discount.
Carrying them to the car was another matter. Fun all the same.
I’d love to join in a Friday dinner, but I doubt I’ll make it. My rehab sessions are M-W-F. Even if I jumped into the car for the drive to Chicago immediately after my Friday session, I still might not get there in time. Plus I’d be a tired, sweaty mess on arrival, which wouldn’t be good because I care so much about all of your opinions of me.
