Audioquest Dragon Thread

Phil did I believe. But he prefers wire world platinum and holo dac. Might be his B&W tweeters needing to have the treble softened. I saw the owner of HiFi buys did a video with Garth Powell. He said 99 out of 100 customers keep the Dragon when he lets them trial it . So it is not for everyone or their system.

I borrowed a 20 amp Dragon from a friend. I compared it to an Audience AU24SX into my P20.
The Dragon definitely sounds different, more etched, less dense in my opinion.
I find the Audience more pleasing, especially at roughly half the price.

@RonP I would call that a fair assessment to most. It definitely is not fatiguing. But I found I have to turn up the volume on the Dragon to get it to sound more full. But looking at my McIntosh power meters that do read true, it ends up being an equivalent 12 watts of what I had to play my BAV cord to get half the details. 12 watts is the power the Lyngdorf RoomPerfect needs to make DSP measurements in my room. It plays a signal and has you adjust preamp to a level where the microphone can hear and then filters adjust for room modes. Thus to get optimum fullness in sound listening I find I need to be at the power the room likes. I have written about this before about achieving best listening by matching peaks to 12 watts with power meters. Due to source levels a volume preset number can overdrive or under drive the room. Amazing how their DSP software compensates.

The Dragon let’s you back off the preamp volume by about 6/10ths to hear details. But you want fullness it is about equivalent power if that makes sense.

So my recommendation for comparison is level matching by meters watt or Db versus ear.

I don’t have experience with the Audience and I’m sure it’s a fine cable. The AU24SX lists for $4500 the Dragon lists for $5500. I can buy the Dragon for less than the AU24SX.

Come to think of it I don’t have experience with the Dragon HC cable either! :confounded:

I just know I can get a better deal on one!

Wow that’s terrific!
A 3 meter Dragon lists for $14k
Same size AU24SX lists around $5.5k
You must have a great relationship with your seller!

3 meter? Ouch! That hurts. Unlike some other cables, AQ pretty much double their prices for double length. They will never appear in my home theater system, and I’m going to get a tiny rack to jam all my gears together when I do full loom Dragon.

I was referring to 1m. You got me at 3m!! Can’t beat that price!

Maybe you can get a very high quality Furutech power strip and plug it into your re-generator and jam all your 1m Dragons into this power strip? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That might work, good thinking there!

In this title, it is stated that the strong properties of graphene will decrease over time, can the same thing happen with this cable?

If you buy from an authorized Audioquest dealer you will get a lifetime guarantee against defects.

Paul, I am now a member of the Dragon 48 club as of an hour ago ! Thank you again for all your efforts to direct me to TMR !

Excellent did you receive your Dragon 48 already?

Yes indeed I did ! Now I have to decide whether to listen to Qobus or re-listen to my favorite CDs !

You will love it! Music has been playing thru mine since Tuesday morning. The burn in process should be completed soon! Enjoy!

It’s not the fault I mean. Decreased performance over time due to the properties of graphene. And it’s impossible to justify the performance degradation.

Just under a week with the Dragon 48 I2S (HDMI). It is sounding unbelievable! One of my best upgrades along with the Hurricane HC power cable for my P10! I would rate it above the Hurricane IMO. If you have a PST, a Matrix Spdif, a Denafrips Hermes, or a Jay’s transport and Directstream DAC this is the holy grail of I2S cables!

I pulled the trigger on the Dragon 48. All it took was a nice dinner with a couple Mai Tai in Roy’s Waikiki. You got to pick the right place and the right time, and I got off easy with my boss this time .

I will get my Dragon HC over the weekend and I can’t wait to compare it to the Zavfino Silver Dart.

I feel so inadequate using my AQ Vodka. Unfortunately I’ve used up my audio budget for the year and will have to wait until next year. By then I hope someone will have discovered the next great HDMI that will make the Dragon obsolete, and cost less than $500.

On a fixed income myself and I feel your pain and am with you Brother.
