He does come off as kind of pompous but he also has a pair of Moya’s so I’ll put up with him for an hour or two. Im pretty sure we won’t see or hear them at Axpona.

Here’s the message that he conveyed: If you like what I don’t sell, you’re ignorant.

Not limited to just that particular dealer IME.
Many are great , but there are a couple that can be difficult.

What dealer is that?

Yes I get that a lot from his you tube video that he pushes the Grimm MU1 and Tambaqui Dac over the Grimm MU2 single unit.

Hey now…this is an audio show, not a Corvette convention. “I know what I got!”

I’m questionable this year…well, questionable about attending (as I’m always a questionable thing to be around). Despite going to the show to help with show coverage for Copper, financially it may not work out…and timewise it may not work either, depending on when other major events fall into place here.

But if I do go, I’ve already had the room reserved since last year. Last year I grabbed a room at the Wingate in Schaumburg, only about two miles from the Renaissance. (I have Wyndham points to use, so I can get a discount that way.) So I grabbed the same hotel this year, as the other Marriott properties across I-90 (Springhill Suites) went up about 70% in price from when I stayed there pre-COVID. Yeah it’s not within walking distance but I’ll survive.

On nights I stay over, I get to the show about an hour before it opens the next morning, so I can get a spot close to one of the doors. Otherwise it could be a long walk from, well, just about anywhere. (I still remember bringign a buddy over from the Springhill we stayed at, and had to walk through freezing rain from the back of the lot to find an entrance.) I arrived late on Friday last year, so spots had opened up as some folks had left the show by about 3pm.

BTW, maybe I’m just an edge case, but I bring my own food. The car has a portable refrigerator, so I grab something out of there so I don’t have to pay a small fortune for mediocre convention center food. And, I know what’s in the food (allergies, irritants, etc.).

I’m not sure what unique angle I’ll cover this year–I don’t like writing up the same show reports all the others cover in their magazines and honestly, I have this growing distate of how expensive high-end audio has become, so I even question why I set foot in AXPONA. But I think it’s mainly for the friends and acquaintances I meet at the show every year. None of us will ever afford much of anything at the show, but we can at least compare notes and catch up in our lives. That makes it worth attending.

I was hoping to go this year to help a Minnesota dealer friend and meet some of youse guys and, since I reached eighteen years of age in a nearby town, it would have been a chance to catch up with some of my favorites.

Once again however, it conflicts with a NASA track event out here at Sonoma Raceway at Sears Point, and I’m the co-lead of the HPDE 1 and 2 driving groups. Maybe next year.

Hope springs eternal…

+1. They pick the worst weekend for tax preparers like me. I quit my full-time job last year, but unfortunately still need the tax work to buy new cables and play golf!

Some more Axpona good news bad news. First the good, I reached out to Rel Acoustics and they confirmed they will be there and a Rel 6 pack subwoofer line array will be on display! :+1:t2:

The bad news now first spotted by @adifferentpaul who told me no Gryphon on the vendors list. I said that can’t be let me check. So I emailed Anthony Chiarella from Gryphon and he confirmed this to be true sadly. No Gryphon room or display.

No sign of them at the upcoming Florida show, either.

They are back ordered on everything until the end of time, or six months, whichever comes first. It’s the end times folks.

Now is not the appropriate time for goals.
Live like there is no tomorrow.
