Thanks. Interesting. Dutch manufacturer with good reviews on older types and fair pricing.
Let’s face it, most studios are using Mogami and Canare (there’s probably another I am forgetting) cables which were used if I’m not mistaken to record most of the music we all have loved for years. Getting upgraded cables, even slightly better was most likely a win.
Fair point.
Definitively. I’d like to find out what our forum members feel stands out in this regard, given our choice of gear - and make my choice. Your past experiences have already proven to be very helpful.
I’m still in the lusting stage for the DS MK2 Dac
Curious as to whet Ps Audio tells you regarding your/ANY HDMI cable that works on the MK1 dac but not on the MK2.
Sounds impossible but yet here we/you are.
Keep me/us posted please regarding Ps reply.
Well they gave me the screw size. So I will swap the screws for a pair with a lower profile. It is not that the cables will not work it is that I cannot connect them. The screws block the body of the cable’s plug and prevent a connection. It would be interesting to know if these “tall” screws are unique to my MK2. If not then there may be others who will have issues.
I’m nearly positive the wafer head screws will work. What size screw did PS tell you? I was thinking sticking a set of them in the same kit I keep fuses. Best to be prepared vs the day I want to use a cable and can’t.
The size they gave is M3 0.5 X 6mm. I wonder if this is standard size. I have other PS Audio products with hdmi inputs but none have these kind of massive screws.
That’s not very big.
M3 = 3mm or .12" (this means “M” = Metric, the “3” is the diameter of the thread size in MM)
6mm = .24" (length)
Hmmm. So are you saying that they may have used the wrong screws on my unit or maybe they quoted me the wrong screw size.
Oh no, that’s not what I meant. I was commenting on your comment about the screws being massive. The specs you posted aren’t for a massive screw.
Oh I see. By massive I am referring to their high profile.
Shouldn’t be hard to find at a larger Ace or True Value Hardware. There you can buy what you need and not a whole box like the big box stores or Amazon. I’ve bought many a headshell screw from Ace.
Thank you
Me too, nothing like pulling out a bunch of drawers to see all sorts of fasteners.
@pixelm - when you do get to the store and are looking through the fastener drawers, be sure to measure whatever you pull out, others before you may not have been patient enough to put back the correct size into the correct bin.
While I was at our house in Greenville, SC over the Holidays the light bulb in the gas oven went out so rather than fight the crowds at Walmart or the two big box stores only to find out they were out I decided to go to the new family owned Ace Hardware about five miles North of us in Travelers Rest. This store was big enough that you could fit between four and five of the Ace I visit in Florida inside of it. It was like a fastener wonderland. Plus the prices didn’t seem to be that much different and they actually had employees willing to help if you needed it. I picked up some things just on the chance I might “need” them. Will certainly be checking them out again when I’m on my own. This is the family owners third location in over 40 years as an Ace franchisee.
Are you using HDMI to connect to your MK2 Dac ?
If so, what make/model HDMI cable are you using ?
It’s hard to imagine the HDMI connector is the culprit.
By any chance, did you discuss the possibility of permanently swapping the screws by factory default, at least around the terminals?
It shouldn’t be a big deal for PSA and really helpful in preventing this stumbling block for future customers.
I had assumed when I contacted service that would have picked up that this is a potential issue for others. Their main concern however when they gave me screw size was that I might be “modifying” the dac. I tried.
