I currently have a Logitech Squeezebox Touch that I use to stream CDs ripped to flac files and some Hi-Res downloads from a Synology 1812+ NAS. This runs into a Direct Stream DAC with Yale OS. Would I get better sound quality adding a Bridge I to the DS DAC? I’m not quite ready to spend the $$$ on a Bridge II.
B1 is good-sounding, but B2 is unquestionably better; in addition, it supports gapless and has more reliable connectivity. I certainly understand about spending limits, but if you want to go with a Bridge it might make sense to save up and get a B2. You already own a Synology NAS, and I can tell you from experience that MinimServer on a Synology feeding B2 can give outstanding SQ. MinimServer also provides the most flexible and customizable way to display your tags that I have seen.
I don’t own a Logitech but there are others here who do and who can help answer your original SQ question.
Bridge 1 sounded better than my SBT feeding my PWD (now upgraded to a DS), but that was some time ago. At this point I don’t even remember whether I connected the SBT by coax or USB (I think it was the former). I tend to agree with Magister that waiting and getting a B2 might be a better idea, unless you can get a B1 really cheap and don’t care about gapless (or use foobar2000, which does gapless with a B1).
Indeed, B1 is no slouch; I’m just spoiled by having B2 now. The fact that the OP has a Synology means that he can install MinimServer plus its MinimStreamer component and have FLAC files transcoded to WAV before being sent off to the Bridge. In my system this made a noticeable improvement, and other Minim/Synology users have reported the same. It might very well be better than the SBT.
I’ve been using a Modwright Logitech Transporter for 6+ years, and a SB in a secondary system. Last week got a DS with Bridge 1 installed. Until I got the Bridge working, used the digital outputs of the Transporter (tried coax and XLR) into the DS. This by passes the internal DAC and tube output stage. I thought it sounded better in subtle ways at first, then quite a bit better when I played some redbook files from CDs that I always thought were not well recorded. After finally downloading JRiver and getting it to work, listened via the Bridge last night and this morning for a short while. Not sure yet if this sounds better than the way I used the DS for the first 4 days.
I have an iMac running El Capitain, JRiver 21.0.8 with music on an external HD connected via Firewire. The Mac connected to router with Cat5 and the DS to the same router with cat5. JRemote on an iPad. Last night and this morning working great, hope it continues. The first two days with JRiver, the Bridge didn’t show as a device in the Playing Now tree on the left, but now it does, and that was a relief to see. Interestingly, the SB in the secondary system shows up there also. Does this mean I can use JRiver to control the SB as well? Haven’t tried that yet.
I’m going to miss being able to synch the primary and secondary systems with Logitech Music Server.
The b1 when it worked sounded nice , the new bridge is on par with a music server over USB , it’s a no Brainer not to go with the B2 . It’s stable and is easy to setup. Paul and company have a good thing going with the new bridge . For me if I use a good dedicated music server it’s a close race , close enough to use it as is . Hope, this helps
now if this post gets touched moved or what ever hell to pay people .
No squeeze box modded or not I ever heard came close to a server or pauls new bridge .

Al, please give it a rest. No one is editing your posts willy-nilly; no one cares enough to bother.
If you perceive any issue whatsoever, please post it in forum issues specifically identifying the problem so we know what happened. We will be happy to look into it.
Hello. I have a DS (since about four weeks now) still without a Bridge. I would like to give the Bridge II a try with the LMS plugin UPnP/DLNA-bridge. This plugin makes an UPnP renderer to a “Squeezebox”. Not keen to keep an UPnP server (for music) in my setup anymore. I had an Auralic Aries (Femto) for a couple of months and the MinimServer but decided to go back to the Squeezebox plattform.
I have a SBT, too. With the EDO app and current firmware ready for native DSD playback but because I use Daphile with the DS as an USB-DAC (and an UpTone Regen in-between) I have degraded the SBT to a “Now playing” screen.
So, if someone here has a Bridge II (gapless is a must!) and a LMS in his/her setup. Maybe you can try this UPnP/DLNA-bridge plugin and give some report about it
and will try it. However want to finish skiming through the slimdevices forum topic - seems like some users experience issues using the plugin.
I was testing the plugin with a Pioneer BDP. It worked quite well apart of missing gapless. The Pio is not gapless-ready. Well, I didn’t make a long time test.

I tried it a while ago during the Bridge 1 days. I couldn't get it to work. Not sure if the plug in has changed since then.
Are you sure it was the UPnP/DLNA-bridge plugin? There is still another UPnP media server plugin for the LMS. The Auralic Aries could see the server but they didn't want to work together for some reason.
Yes, the one from Andy Grundman. It must been one year ago when I have tried his plugin with the Aries. I am not up to date if there is a newer version of it now.
This morning I was able to get the LMS plugin named “UPnP/DLNA bridge” to work sort of. It played the first song of an album from beginning to end, but would not continue to the second song. Clicking the second song (using Squeezepad on an iPad) plays it through to the end then stops. I’m using the default settings which if modified might fix this. But still I’m amazed that it works at all - LMS is controlling the Bridge 1 in my DS DAC. A player named “Bridge” shows up in the LMS web interface on the iMac and in Squeezepad.
I used these instructions provided by Phillippe via the forum page:
If you go into LMS settings, and in the plugin tab, check the box “Show all 3rd party plugins” (at the bottom), apply, and then you should see a list under “Other 3rd party plugins”. In that (long) list, “UPnP/DLNA bridge” should appear. Select it and click ‘apply’ (should restart LMS)
Then, still in LMS settings go to the “advanced” tab and in the dropdown list on the upper left, select "UPnP/DLNA bridge to access the parameters. There you can start the bridge plugin and optionally change its parameters. Look at the info bubble for each parameter and read the manual, accessible from this page.
Try with default parameters first it might work. Unfortunately, UPnP devices are often not compliant to the standard, so some tweaks might be needed but there are many people here to help
Its working now, plays from track to track w/o issues. Only parameter that needed to be changed was “Player handles next track” changed from yes to no. This is because PS Audio Bridge 1 does not support gapless play. If using PS Audio Bridge 2 then this parameter can be set to yes.
