So the guy I brought my DirectStream Mk1 from gave me a PerfectWave Network Bridge I to go with it though he’d never actually used it. So I installed the bridge and the DS seems to see it fine. However, I got a wifi repeater and plugged it via Ethernet into the Bridge, but the Bridge doesn’t seem to see the network. The Repeater sees the device and has assigned it an IP address and the little light goes on next to the ethernet port where it’s plugged in, but the DS still says there’s no network connected. Screenshots below:
I did try manually entering the IP address but I wasn’t sure what to put in for the subnet, gateway, and primary and secondary DNS settings. Just putting in the IP address didn’t help it find the network.
It is an automatically assigned IP address. I believe it’s a private network because it’s coming off a wifi extender rather than straight from the main router (which is too far away to run a cable to).
Okay so I updated the firmware on my extender and suddenly the Bridge is seeing the network! Hooray! Even shows up a PSAudioBridge on the extender’s app.
Now the problem I’m having is that this is supposed to have AirPlay right? Because it’s not showing up in the list of AirPlay available devices on my Apple devices. I also went into Qobuz but it doesn’t look like Qobuz Connect sees it either. Have to dig deeper…
AirPlay isn’t supported. It’s been a long time since I upgraded from my DS Mk1 with a Bridge, but my recollection is that the Bridge does support Qobuz via mConnect. On the screen that appears when you start mConnect, there is a list of available services, such as vTuner, Tidal, etc. If Qobuz appears in that list, you are good to go. Notice that this is not the new Qobuz Connect app; you go through mConnect’s interface, which I find clunky, but it does work.
If you are referring to JRiver Media Center, the all around best sound I got playing files stored on my iMac and NAS using the Bridge II (and now with my AirLens) is via JRMC. Overall, I tend to prefer it to Roon streaming the same files.
