Burning in 4 new solid silver power cables at once

You can get them on EBay from JkRichards and I think they are available in a few locations. You can google them, go to APS Audio Transformers or get them from EBAY.

Yes, mitchb105 is right.

I got mine from JkRichards a few years ago.

At 250 hours or so play on the new power cables I notice a big improvement in sound quality. My intention is to let the system run for a total of 500 hours continuous play time. So far so good.

My experience with the RAL cables is that they require a good 500 hours play time from new to come into their own. I am at 450 hours play time on the new power cables and they are truly sounding good. They are just settling down. I really like these cables.

No surprise.

550 hours play on the RAL power cables and the sound is is actually stunning.

Can you honestly remember what your system sounded like 500 hours ago? Come to think of it, I don’t recall ever seeing/reading about an A/B test of interconnects pre- and post- burn in. Regardless of the outcome, the forums would be busy for a time.

RAL Precept II PC is asking $1599, and Precept is asking $4649. Have you tried both? I wonder why there’s a big price difference.

I have had firsthand experience with product burn in, and it’s real. Very real. I borrowed a Grimm MU2 from a forum member, and was able to have the borrowed MU2 in my home for a couple of weeks. As soon as I heard music on the borrowed MU2 I had to have one and could not stop myself from buying one. When my MU2 arrived, I unplugged the borrowed MU2 and put my new one in the system. It sounded like crap. The expansive open sound that the borrowed MU2 had was gone, just non-existent in my brand new MU2. I then put the borrowed MU2 back in the system just to make sure I wasn’t hearing things, and the borrowed MU2 sounded smooth and open. I put the new MU2 back in and everything sounded closed in and flat. I was able to directly compare a fully broken in MU2 with a brand new non broken in MU2. Other potential factors like not being used to how a product sounds was non-existant. I had an MU2 for a couple of weeks and the only thing that changed was a new MU2 compared to a fully broken in MU2. Now the actual time for the new MU2 to break in, at least to have an initial break in, was only about 6 hours of continuously playing music when the sound first opened up.

Nice!

I had burn-in experience with two AQ Dragon Source PCs a few years ago. I got an AQ Dragon HC first and it took more than 200 hours to sound good, and Source took a bit less time but still was over 100 hours. Both these cords need over 500 hours to reach their peaks.

But to the question of importance on burn in. When I acquired a second Dragon S., I put it on a component that had a three-month-old Dragon S. It already had more than a few thousand hours usage, and there was a obvious SQ difference between the two. Even a casual listener who had zero interest in high-end audio could easily tell the older one sounded better.

The Precept is a much larger guage than the Precept 2 and it uses expensive connectors stock. The Precept 2 is the smaller version with less expensive connectors stock. I ordered a Precept cable and 3 beefed up Precept 2 cables with the nicer connectors.I really like these cables.

It seems that eBay sells a ton of RAL cables at small discounts from their own site. When I get bored I may try one, Precept looks interesting, but I may get another Stealth if I got really bored.

Interestingly, the RAL Precept Ref. PC has been around for over 20 years because the newest review I could find was from 2005! They didn’t even have a MK2 revision on it. But the price has increased from $1k to more than $4k now. Hmm, The Grande from Stealth is only a few month old. Hmmm.

A guy paid for my AQ Dragon HC two days ago, and it is still under review by PayPal. Hmmm:thinking: I’m not sure I really want to sell now. I tried four PCs on LHY SW-10 Pro and Dragon definitely has the deepest bass. MU2 in front of it sounded the best with this switch combo too. Maybe I should cancel the sale. It’s only use for a switch my goodness!

I don’t know how the Precept cable would compare to a Stealth cable or an AQ Dragon but I can speak for myself when I say that I am extremely excited about the sound quality I am getting with a full loom or at least mostly a full loom of RAL cables. I happily sold my AQ Dragon HDMI and WEL Signature AES cables and Danacable Nirvana headphone cables in favour for the RAL cables. I started with the Umbilical cables for my Pass XP-32 preamp and I kept upgrading until I got the most recent power cables. No regrets and it was a pleasure dealing with Brad. I got my cables in a timely manner and I am very happy and obviously excited with my new sound. In 2021 I purchased all new Audio Art Cable Statement cables and they were nice but the RAL cables are in another level of quality of sound.

That’s good information, thanks!

My sale of Dragon HC has been pending for three days from PayPal which is strange. If it goes through then I need to upgrade to something. The recent experience on different cords for my network switch made me realize two things:

  • Power cord matters a lot on a switch
  • Dragon HC with SW-10pro is an incredible combination that’s hard to beat

I need a power cord with the strength in lowering background noise and bass. A Stealth should be able to do it, but there are too many choices even within their Dream or CG lines.

At around 700 hours or so the 4 power cables have appeared to settle down and are sounding very nice. My system has an entirely improved sound and I am happy.

After 2 weeks of bypassing the Hydra 6 with my transport, streamer and tuner on it from the Keces I decided to try connecting the Hydra 6 back to the Keces and WOW!! The sound completely improved to a fuller more detailed sound with a large soundstage side to side and front to back. The Keces IQRP 3600 does wonders for the sound. I am actually excited.

Two nights ago I did a complete overhaul switching the Precept 2 power cables on my X250.8 amp and XP-32 preamp for the Neotech 3200 cables and I am going from the X250.8 directly to a dedicated ac line at the wall and the XP-32 from the Keces. The three Precept 2 cables are going from the Mk2 to a Hydra 2 and from the Hydra 2 to a Neotech 3001 Mk3 cable to another dedicated ac line at the wall and a Precept 2 from the Hydra 6 to the PST transport and the MD106T tuner. The last three Neotech 3200 cables are from the Keces to the Hydra 6 and the Hydra 6 to the streamer and finally from the Keces to the Silver Fox headphone amp. This setup seems to work best so far. The Precept 2 cables seem to work best on source components. The big Precept is on the Keces IQRP 3600 conditioner. This setup sounds best so far.

Just curious. With all of the time spent on cabling, do you ever get to just sit down and listen to music?
