I just last week received 5 new power cables for power conditioner, amp, preamp,Directstream dac and headphone amp Is it necessary to play music to burn in the cables or does the system stay just need to be powered on. I play music all the time but I thought I would ask.
Playing music is not necessary. In fact, you don’t even need to have the power cable integrated into your sound system for effecting burn-in. VH-Audio has very affordable Cable burn-in adapters that allow you to burn in your cable via, for example, your refrigerator.
But it is much better to burn in power cables with a large electric heater. You get warmer sound.
[SORRY]
you silly
Thanks for the reminder, and that’s why I use the refrigerator.
Put it on refrigerator with an adapter then you’ll get cooler sound😆
The power cables will burn in if you simply have the components on, but they will burn in much quicker if you have music playing at normal levels. This will get more power moving through the cables and thus speed up burn in of the power cables. This is based on my own experience.
For more info on this topic, I suggest this site: Breaking in cables and components - Mojo Audio
Put the cables where they belong, play music, enjoy, and eventually they will peak. Quit worrying about them burning in when you are not there to listen to them. If a cable burns in in the woods, and no one is there to witness it, it still burns in.
As an alternative, look on line for snake oil. It works—apparently.
What he said ^^^^^^^^^!
In a world where immediate gratification is king, two of my great joys are a slow burn cigar and listening to cables burn in when connected to the hi-if. Burn on!
I have enjoyed listening to the cables burn in and change. I just plugged in and enjoy. No hardship. At about the 300 hour point they are amazing.
The Mojo article confirms my own experience. Even with one week of burning by the wine cellar, I found power cords still need a few days to sound right. When I moved around power cords it takes a day to sound good too. The worst is AQ Dragon HC, it would kill the magic for a few days when it was bent to the opposite direction (found out recently when it was moved and reverse-bent for the first time).
I have never heard of MojoCables though.
amen, brother
Yes, I have the experience too. Solid core cables are more susceptible to movement and need some time to calm down. Plugging and unplugging plugs also has an impact. The postponed contact needs time to settle down again. Yesterday we had a strong thunderstorm, as a precaution I pulled my power cable out of the wall. When the storm passed and I started listening to music again, the sound was brighter and lacked substance. It’s back to normal today.
Agreed! Now I do not have the PSR demo cords anymore and I moved the AQ Source from the streamer back to BHK pre. The PST sounded okay bit worse than before, and the streaming was much worse! The only thing that saved the day was I purchased a few DSD256 from HDTT and they saved the SQ.
I use a vmax’s copper-wrapped Purist Colossus cord with Vborg plugs to feed the Lumin U2. The SQ was bad but finally got better after 6 hours. Still, I missed PSR cords. Even with three Dragon cords in the system there was something really missing!
I gave my Silnote Orion Ref. cord to my daughter, and I sold the Stealth V10. Now I really miss them.
If the functioning clockwork is missing a cog, this is noticeable. But you can now look forward to getting your very own PSR 11 soon. And then enjoy the cable burn-in.
I hope you like the cables.
Mitch
Do you mean the AQ Dragon and Zenwave PSR power cords? Both are excellent in my system. However, more AQ cords have added benefits, but not with PSR. One seems to be enough in my system.
I find it difficult to understand your email. I very much enjoyed the Audio Art Statement E2plus cables. I hope you like them. They are Audio Art Cable’s best power cable.
Oops! I’m talking to three different people on two posts.
