Burning in 4 new solid silver power cables at once

I’m burning in a brand new RAL Precept cable from the wall to my Power conditioner and 3 Precept 2 power cables one from conditioner to amp and one from conditioner to preamp. I am also using a Precept 2 from the wall to a dac. I had good sound upon installation of the cables but after around 20 hours or so the sound has become harsh. My experience with RAL silver cables is that this hard sound is normal for a while but I thought I would ask other people”s experience and advice. The sound is alarming harsh but I went through this with my RAL xlr cables and digital cables and speaker cables so I am assuming what I am going through to be normal burn in.

Have you asked Jesus for help? He comes with each cable.

I’m getting good sound this morning. I don’t know if it was a burn in issue with the power cables or something else but last night my headphones sounded good and this morning my speakers sound good.

You have to wait 7 months after ordering before he and the cables arrive.

After good sound last night and this morning this afternoon the sound is off again. Apparently it is normal burn in and the roller coaster like effect is normal burn in. I only have 20 or so hours on new cables in a chain from the wall to conditioner to amp, preamp and dac. I will just play the system and the burn in process will follow. I hope.

Which Haysuus is that?

I have perhaps 25 hours play with the new power cables and the sound is gorgeous. I can’t imagine the sound of the‘big boys” on this forum with their Gryphon gear and their Stealth cables as that stuff is far beyond what I can afford but I’m doing well at the entry to mid point of high end. I’m having fun with audio well after the point where I thought I was done upgrading I discover better cables than I had.

Once you get used to the really expensive stuff it may feel the same as when you get used to the affordable stuff. “There’s that sound again!”.

My headphones put me to sleep. Not because I am tired and bored but on the contrary. The sound is so good and relaxing it will tend to put me out. I am getting some good sound. I would even dare to say best ever. My Abyss 1266 Phi TC headphones and Silver Fox amp are actually up there. Still I prefer my Pass and Hales but my wife needs her sleep.

Finally! The logic of burn in always resulting in improvement has perplexed me. Remember, fine red wines improve with age, milk does not. Perhaps, overtime, constant temperature variations or vibrations disrupt the grain boundaries in the silver. Just spitballing.

The cables are sounding good. I am at around 40 hours or so and the harshness is totally gone. I am getting nice sound but apparently these cables improve over several hundred hours. I will just have to experience how the cables change for myself.

I’m getting good sound at around 60 hours play or so and I have read that these cables further improve up to several hundred hours.

The good/bad periods have not ended yet, and you will soon hear bad sound again, and it is not your DAC either.

Wait until 200 hours, or you can copy and paste your previous posts:laughing: luckily it’s not a heavy power cable then your posts could be two pages long until it has over 1000 hours:man_running:t3:

I forgot to mention. On your MK2, I preferred i2s2 over i2s1 if you’re using HDMI. Let me know if there’s a difference in your system. Also, I used shorting plugs for both i2s1 and USB inputs. There seemed to be a tiny improvement.

However, they made the sound worse on PMG.

I am using ground shorting plugs in I2S2 and USB. I have my PST connected to the Mk2 via I2S1. The dac is working flawlessly. Both the Mk1 and the Mk2 don’t like my Keces conditioner and I have the Mk2 connected to a Hydra 2 which goes into it’s own dedicated ac line. The sound is very good. I have no need to reboot so far.

Great to know you enjoy it!

By the way, my break in post was not too funny, and enjoy your continued break in:laughing:

I am getting good and not so good sound as the cables settle. As the cables are solid 5N silver I am expecting changes good and bad for the next several hundred hours until the cables settle down. Burning in the digital and xlr cables took upwards of 500 hours to sound settled. I think that the RAL cables are notorious for lengthy burn in time.

My wife went to Montreal for 3 weeks to house sit our daughter’s dog while I am at home taking care of our dog. I am able to give the new cables a good burn in keeping the system on 24/7. It’s beginning to sound excellent.
