Can a PWT be modded?

I just successfully had my DSD modded. Is it possible and:or practical to have a 10 year old Perfectwave transport modded? What about purple fuse and external power supply? My Keces has an additional output for 12 or15 or 16 volt.

The easiest and cheapest is to get the SR fuses, either the Orange or the Purple. Way back then, I have replaced the drive to a Plextor. At this age, I would not bother it with any internal mod. Also get a good set of feet under it so that you can re-use them when you get a new transport.

The latest PSA SACD transport is much much better than the PWT.

I would love a new PST one day but they are over $6500. One day I will pull the trigger on one but for the moment I will use my PWT which has been working well for 10 years now. It’s in my future and will probably be my next upgrade. Thanks again for your help.

@mitchb105 if you spin only Redbook CDs take a serious look at the Jay’s Audio CDT2/MK3. This transport is some serious bang for the buck. It replaced my PWT in the main system and absolutely kills it for sound quality, build quality, value, customer support, etc. I’m feeding the DS DAC with Edcor transformer upgrade and Sunlight FW. Love this combo to death!

The Jay’s Audio would work except it is a top loader disc mechanism. I need a front loader as my Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer sits on top of the transport. The PST would be ideal if I could find one at a reasonable price. $9000 CND is insane for a new one. My PWT will have to do for now. I too had my DSD fully modded and I am loving it already. It has less than one day of play on it so far.

I rearranged my entire stack of components to accommodate the Jay’s and am not sorry for the effort. Just saying that transport exceeded my expectations by quite a bit and at $2500 is a great deal. You can also order a complete replacement mechanism for $350 just in case. Sorry for gushing but for the money I think it’s tough to beat unless you need SACD.
