Connecting Subwoofer to Sprout 100

Hi all, I have a Airmotiv XS8 Subwoofer I need to connect. It does have an LFE connection on the sub. My question is can I use that or do I have to use the crossover? I am hoping I don’t have to mess with the crossover because I really don’t know how to use/adjust that stuff. If I do, can you advise how to do it? I’m a little confused because the Sprout only has a single connection so I am thinking that means I don’t have to worry about it. Thanks in advance.

The sub out on the Sprout is a full range line level output so you sill need to adjust the crossover on the the Airmotiv sub. What speakers are you using with the Sprout?

Speakers are Airmotiv B1+ bookshelf. It’s a desktop system. The Sprout has that bass boost, however I found that really just makes the sound muddy which is way I got the sub.

From my Sprout experience, hook up the LFE and you should be fine. I used a pair of Elac speakers and a REL T5i. Sprout turned off the bass boost when it detected the sub. Had tried the hi level connect and found no difference so I went the easy route. Seem to remember somewhere Paul had a video on this. Good luck!

Start with setting the subs crossover at 60 and turn the volume up until you can just identify where it is then turn it down just a bit. Leave the phase at 0 to start. If you don’t set a crossover frequency for the sub it will overlap you main speakers. 60 is a starting point based on the claimed response of your B1. As that may not be accurate you may have to move it up to 80hz.

Thanks, that is a big help! I’ve been working on it today tweeting things and can tell this is a balancing act for sure.

If you haven’t you might want to check on the dedicated Emotiva forum and see if anyone there has any experience with that speaker sub combination.

I run my Sprout100 in a bedroom system with Elac 4.1’s and a svs sub. I use the LFE output and it sounds great. I set the sub crossover at 60hz and adjust the volume on it accordingly. Perfect.
