Consumer's Protection

Just wanted everyone to hear about our version of consumer protection. There is a Perfectwave 12 AC cord on aliexpress.com for only $125. I was excited at first, but then it seemed too good to be true, and googled the cable. Sadly enough, even though they even went to the length of making the same looking custom plugs, there was no way that was worth buying a forgery, even if it’s still not a bad price for that cable.
Paul McGowan is passing the worth being his best friend to, and reminds us all that after that one written by Lear, there was the terrible Money, Money, so don’t tell me only the headbangers are watching out for you people who just want to sit there listening the whole time. Especially since those guitars are meant to have a headphone soundstage, since it’s not only just 2 mics in front of your own stage area, but the holiest of mic jobs.

Two things: 1. Nothing worth buying can be found on aliexpress. I wish I could understand the rest of what you had to say. You sound passionate.

Well, people in the market for a 2m cable that can beat their standard cable are probably already not wrong to think that a big fat one composed of the same strands will already be better on their amps, and $125 could be their price range. So, I’m just saying that by assuming an AC12 cable that looks identical to the real thing, including looking like the same custom plugs, still qualifies as an improvement to your amp’s original performance, will have to lose, due to being an attempt to forge a PS Audio cable (same applies to all forgeries). I am just being a whistle-blower about forgeries, and am trying to protect PS Audio from that, especially for being nice to us by being serious about making better audio gear for us, although forgeries will be losers to me, automatically.
aliexpress sells lower end stuff, so I can understand anyone later saying nothing is worth buying from there, except that Nordost has stuff that probably makes people say that about the AC12 cable too, right? Oh yeah, aliexpress has lots of cheap “Nordost” cables with Chinese characters smaller below, too. At prices that could even make you wonder how well they do compared to the rest at that low price, should you decide to even know that it’s not true Nordost.
Alas, my next purchase after a big fat AC cable already confirmed my deepest fears: Even if a company doesn’t bother telling you about it’s metal’s purity, some IC’s will still provide less resistance to your signal, and will sound more live in your system, and that’s still only for $300, compared to what I haven’t heard in my system yet. I’m with Paul, after school, do your homework well, before listening, if you want to ever have it all.
I know, that stuff by Lear is probably still better, but at least I’m a whistle blower about forgeries.

Over the years many of us have reported fake 2m AC12s. What worried me is not the ones being sold for $125 but there must be many people who’ve paid several hundred dollars thinking they’ve bought the real thing. I’ve got lots of real AC5s and I know they’re real because not only do they weigh the correct weight but when you rub your hand over the braid you can feel the internal twist of the cable.

Edit - twist is probably the wrong word, it’s the structure you can feel (it’s not just a smooth cable underneath the braid).

Thanks for letting me know it’s common, dan.
What a cheap and dirty way to sell your cables for $125 before people who try winning at $125 for real. This is why forums for specific topics work so well. I can ask (or just search to find recent) which one is best around the $125 point, even though that’s still going to be entry-level for cables, but lots of people don’t want cables to make a difference, either. I would have liked it better if they didn’t, until I got a fat Monster cable version for $80 back in the 80’s, while cables in the big name shops were where Monster started.
Does anyone think I’ll have to be worrying about fake cables on audio forum for sale pages?

Most likely. But worry is abuse of imagination.

Damn. Pretty good for a Knockoff ! I wouldn’t even try. I was fortunate a few years ago when I re-purchased the MK1 DSD DAC and Transport and it came with two very long authentic PS Audio AC Cords.
