Coronavirus - Munich High End Show 2020 canceled

I will only go somewhere the gov doesn’t lock me down on return. Somehow as long as its primary seasons something tells me will not be within CONUS.

That’s too bad Paul but ultimately you have to do what you feel is best, I was looking forward to seeing you guys this year.

CO just got it’s first confirmed cases courtesy of a Californian who visited Keystone and Summit County with some local friends. The visitor to our great state is now isolated in a Front Range hospital and the locals are self-quarantined (and hopefully following doctor’s orders).

IMHO, there’s a non-trivial probability that we’ll experience a significant spike in confirmed cases - especially in universities and surrounding communities - following spring break season in the last half of March. 14 day incubation period gets us into mid April. Testing kits should be more available by then, and more testing will result in more confirmed cases.

Buckle up. Maximum hysteria may be just ahead.

Maybe - just maybe - with all of the work being done by Gilead, Innovio, Moderna, Regeneron and a few other Biotech outfits to develop treatments/vaccines, we might accidentally come out of this outbreak with a cure for the common cold (also a coronavirus).

I’m not particularly paranoid, but I’ve already started looking at things differently. Got a new chair and a new camera, both from China. Started thinking about how much hand-assembly was involved… :man_shrugging:t2:

Went to exercise class today, and at the end we’re spraying disinfectant on the mats and wiping them down (SOP for forever) and we’re going…“hunh, we’re wiping them down with cloths that were used to wipe other ones down…” :man_shrugging:t2:

Does everyone not know that the “common” flu kills roughly 400,000 people every year? What am I missing here? This one seems to mostly affect older people with compromised lungs so Pneumonia becomes the COD. Why the worldwide tremors?

Right - heard many bits of opinions in this regard. Still entirely unsure if this iteration has a higher or lower “kill rate” than the Flu or prior SARS, etc.

ALSO, don’t know if that 400k figure is correct, and if it is ecumenical, or if it kills mostly old people in homes/males who are smokers, etc.

At the very least, the increased attention and awareness is helpful for the future. Assuming we have one🤷🏻‍♂️

The internet is a Virus. Sometimes for good and sometimes not.

Of course, depending on what you wish to believe going in…:cowboy_hat_face:

The flu is about 1 on the r0 infection ratio which means that each infected will infect one other.
The mortality rate of flu is about 0.1%

The coronavirus has an r0 of about 2.6
The mortality rate of coronavirus has just been bumped up to 3.4% by the WHO

The mortality rate in over 80’s is 15%

Dude, if I get to be over 80, just shoot me.

Kinda my Revised Version of "Hope I Die Before I get Old":metal:t2:

Here’s a recent article. Not most recent. The article says 650,000 die worldwide every year. I remembered 350,000. So much for memory.

Let’s hear you say that when you are blessed an became 80. My dad is 86 and alive and kicking.

I’m good with checking out at 80. No one in my gene pool ever lived longer than 83 and the last 3 didn’t count as having any quality of life.
Slowly dying in a nursing facility really needs to be seen to be appreciated. Some here have recent experience.
