I am not giving my Dragon HDMI up either you got your cake today and got to eat it too. Enjoy
While per Ted the I2S connection on the DS Sr. may be the best that may not be true on other DACs even if they are compatible with a source like the Jay’s. It will be dependent on which input/output the designer of the product concentrated the most effort on.
I know i’ve only had my Jay’s Transport a week, and it sounds great, really great. But I’m feeling like I don’t really need it.
I don’t have the patience or interest (or ears, maybe) to sit and compare over and over whether it sounds better than my streamer. It might, but my streamer sounds damned good.
With my gear in a closet and not in the main part of the living room, it’s not particularly convenient to play CD’s. Volume can’t be changed from where I sit. I can’t pause a track to answer a call.
If I’m not playing records, streaming (whether ripped CDs or Qobuz) is much more suited to my lifestyle. (The record player is out in my dining room, so actually not inconvenient, and is fun when I have people over.)
I don’t know that I care anymore.
My girlfriend just dumped me, so maybe that’s it.
Ahdunno.
I’ll turn in my audiophile membership card at the desk on my way out.
Sorry about the girlfriend, that sucks.
If you don’t spin discs I don’t think you need it. I don’t stream or use a Network etc. so I use the heck out of my transports.
Sorry to hear about the GF as well. But I’m there with you… I’m about all streaming or vinyl these days. I moved some things around over the holidays and realized I’ve yet to plug my SACD player into my regen for the last 2 months. I’ve not missed it.
I thought I have completely switched to streaming and playing local files until I bought Jay’s CDT.
Although my streaming setup sounds great (with hi-rez files in particular), the jay’s is delivering a little extra magic that is totally irresistable. I am now buying CDs again by the truckload …
I dont have a use for spinning any discs either. My streaming setup is so easy to use and the SQ is pretty damn good here too.
I have put all of my CD’s in storage and am getting ready to sell my CD player. If that’s a sign of not being a true audiophile I am ok with it. We are on the same team.
So sorry about the GF problems. Don’t let it color your outlook until you have time to process the loss, and no big decisions before then. By that I mean deciding to get rid of the transport. It can wait.
Oh man. The slope got real slippery. I hope you get some good footing soon!!!
So sorry this stuff is happening to you!!!
Oh yeah. I just bought a new CD player after not using either of mine for two months. I am playing a lot of silver discs. The nice thing is the remote that came with the transport controls all functions of the CD transport, the DAC, and the Preamp. So if I put a CD in the transport it is easy to play it, and if I get bored click the remote to start streaming. I have been enjoy the CDs though. I had no clue whatsoever Redbook could sound so amazing.
Perfect Sound Forever
Perfect Sound Forever
LOL
If you buy a Jay’s CDT from Vinshine can you return it if not pleased?
I believe if you received a defective product, they have windows of return, and who pays for what…
But I don’t recall there being any kind of “satisfaction guaranteed or your money back” statement.
I’m 93% sure I’m going to move the Jay’s along.
Yeah, I know, give it time to burn in… (I’ve been running it continuously for a couple of weeks now.)
The thing is, it really does sound great. But I am just feeling like I’m not going to use and appreciate it in my current environment.
Like I said, in my main living room (where the Luxman L509X/Harbeth setup is), my gear is in a closet, so I don’t have line of sight to control volume or pause tracks, etc…
My turntable is actually out in the open, and I listen to more vinyl when friends are over than I do by myself, so TBH, my main solo listening sessions are using Roon to stream Qobuz or my ripped CDs. The Pi + Pi2AES HAT is an amazing streamer. AES/EBU into the Pontus II. And I can control volume, tracks, everything, from my phone. Glorious.
The Jays probably does sound better, but I can’t tell.
Time for you to come out of the closet my friend
sooooo do you mean the gear, literally? or do you mean I need to come to terms with the fact that I am not an audiophile?
Your gear.
And it was a comical statement
oh yah, no problem, I know funny. I’m a clownfish.
Anyway, even if comical, just wanted to get the gist of your sentiment.
The living room will not accept gear in its midst, besides the harbeths.
Turntable is on a credenza in the dining room.
Pics are somewhere in the system photos thread.
hmmm, oddly i’m not seeing 'em in the system photos thread, so here are a few to give you an idea of the situation… Closet is actually BEHIND the orange couch. (And behind the turntable, too, technically.)
Just no way to control anything from my sitting position. And if I’m NOT in that sitting position, there’s absolutely NO way I can tell the difference in SQ of a CD transport vs my streamer, and no benefit in playing a CD except to say that I did so.
Love the gear closet…
Wine glasses, serving dishes, jigsaw puzzles, and a $10,000 integrated amplifier.
It’s a bloody crime.
WINE??? I missed it.
Love the very comfortable looking white chair on the left—saved for special reviewers?
