I’m not seeing the Ying/Yang Dust Ruffles.
No way you are an Audiophile.

Which of these things is not like the others?
yah, we have an eclectic (if not idiosyncratic) aesthetic.
The crux, right there.
I love cool gear, always have. Back in the day it was horse-trading guitars to find the one with the tone and playability that spoke to me.
Cars and bicycles, too.
But I have come to the realization that this hobby is much different.
With the others, it always was “best FOR ME”… not everyone likes the same guitar. And that’s ok. Not everyone likes the same bike feature set, or the same car design.
But here it’s like there’s some magical perfection that I was striving for, competing for, one that I know I’ll never reach. And I am realizing I don’t have the patience to acquire it. And the “could it be better” is keeping me from just enjoying the music. It could always be better.
None of my friends care, so it’s a very solitary pursuit. I mean, we all love and play music, but none of them care about minute differences between two good AES/EBU cables, and I am exhausted trying to figure out whether my ears – and my gear – are good enough to discern that difference. (I will say, yes, there are some differences that I DO hear, but really, I’m looking for good, tight, un-fatiguing sound. I’ve found that, and I don’t really feel the need to push it beyond that. There is no end to that.)
Anyway, thanks for listening to my TED talk.
I’ll check with Vinshine if they have a satisfaction-or-your-money-back thing, but I’m guessing my Jay’s will be in the Marketplace in the coming days.
I would like to know if Jay’s Transport will play downloaded Flac files.
I download a lot of concerts from NUGS or Munck Music then burn them to
a disc with great results. When I asked Jay’s about this he claimed redbook
only. Has anybody here had success playing Flac Files on Jay’s Transport?
I have not.
As long as they are 16/44 shouldn’t be a problem just not the higher Res files from Nugs.
My understanding is the Jay’s is a Redbook CD transport only.
I had one. Wonderful machine for Redbook Only.
I never heard back from PS Audio but I finally have an answer from Jay’s Audio. After the first message took a while, they are now very quick to answer my questions. The pre-emphasis issue seems to be a known problem. Here is the reply I got from Alvin:
Jay engineer feedback that it could be the chip responsible for the SPDIF had the pre-emphasis nuances that causes the SPDIF output to have the pre-emphasis on.
Jay suggest to have a jumper to link one of the pins of the DIT4192 chip to link it to ground.
Is this something you can do it locally ?
I certainly won’t open the machine to solder that cable myself. Especially since it is still under warranty. So now I’m waiting again to receive a message from the importer/distributor on how to proceed.
I just got my Jay’s Audio CDT2 Mk3. Straight out of the box it sounds fantastic. All functionalities are working but I did notice minor glitches in the display:
When I use the function “Repeat Disc”, the displays shows this and the disc does repeat as intended. However there are certain times after a few hours that the display automatically changes to “Repeat Track” even without me touching the remote. Even if this happens, the disc continuous to repeat itself until I decide to stop it.
When I use the function “Remain Disc Time”, the display shows this and the readout does count backward until the disc is finished. The glitch I notice is that the countdown seems to be inaccurate at some times particularly when the second counter hits 59, 49, 39, 29, and 09. Coming from say 50, instead of going to 49, the readout shows another number like 99. Or coming from say 30, instead of going to 29, the readout shows another number like 39. Even if these happen, there is no skipping of the music.
These glitches happen erratically. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. But even when it does, all functionalities remain operative, and the sound remains great.
Are you also experiencing these things?
I have a Jays CDT 2 Mk III as well, and to be honest don’t pay attention to the display. Typically it is turned off. Honestly those aren’t features I am interested in, so it is unlikely I’d use them. I place a disc in it, place the QSTAB on the disc, close the top and press play. I do recommend a QSTAB for a subtle improvement in detail retrieval.
I have experienced the same issue with “Repeat Disc”. Sometimes it will repeat once, then stop and not display the “Repeat Disc” info. Other times it will work as programed. I found it annoying, but not worth sending it off to be fixed.
I only used Repeat Disc when I was breaking in my PTS and Jay’sAudioCDT2-MKIII transports. It was unreliable in each case. As was repeat play on thumbdrives with the PTS. I was not offended but somewhat surprised.
been updated to CDT3-MK3
Yeah, I don’t usually use these functions as well. Just used it for break in purposes and checking if all functionalities work when I got the unit. Just concerned a bit if these glitches is a sign of the laser mechanism going south.?.?.? But if it just the display, then this shouldn’t matter…. just odd for these things to happen at this price point.
I’ll give it a try when I can, as the unit is currently not with me. For a definitive answer I’d touch base with Alvin, or:
Has anyone compared the MK2 to the MK3? MK3 is twice the price, so it must be twice as good, right?
I have them both and yes better but probably not twice.
