Current Opinions of Jays Audio CDT2-MkII Transport

Yup, covid has surely created tough times.
Jays will supply dna data on your CD clamp for an upcharge—even better than having the original packaging.

No need to thank me. Letting you know about this is purely self-serving in that I’m counting on you buying one and providing a review. Also, I want to know how painful it is when they harvest two of your ribs to make the thing.

I am having trouble working up excitement to spend $298 on a cd stabilizer.
Human bone or not. This isn’t to say I won’t, but I haven’t yet.

It can be had for a bit less $$ from the manufacturer’s website:

Oh, baby! It arrived today and we are playing music! First impressions are more clarity and precision especially in the bass compared to my Cambridge CXC. And the thing is a tank! Time to go back to more listening.

Interesting observation Richard RE: comparison to the CXC.

Rediscovering just how good a CD transport can be (After digitising over 500 CDs and shipping them on ) I bought an Audiolab CD6000CDT hooked up to my Directstream Snr.

Improves on an Oppomod modded 203 over i2s into the DS, was very impressed!

However:
The Jays Audio has got my attention, and my question was always Just how much better than the Audiolab could it be, given the price difference?

The CXC is comparable to the Audiolab, so further thoughts on the comparison much appreciated if you could Sir.

Thanks.

Also,
What digital hookup cable are you using to your dac?

Hi @gazjam

I’ll start out by saying I think the CXC is a really good transport and I could have been perfectly happy with it. But the Jay’s transport is a definite step up, especially when it comes to clarity and details. For example, I’ve been listening to Money Jungle (Ellington, Mingus, Roach) and there were a couple of tracks that had background noise on the CXC. On the Jay’s the noise on one track turned into some sort of resonance like a drink glass or glass ashtray on the piano. As I’m putting the CD away I look at the cover and, lo and behold, there is glass ashtray on the piano. On the other track, the noise turned out to be someone humming (I’m guessing Mingus) to the music on the Jay’s. Also, on The Clash - London Calling, which I’ve listened to over 100 times, I’m suddenly hearing a bass riff that I’ve never noticed before.

I’m still at a loss to understand how a laser reading 0’s and 1’s on a spinning silver disk can sound so much better. Also, the overall SQ is improving at it breaks in (which I also don’t understand).

I’m using an AQ Vodka HDMI.

Hope this helps!

Cheers Richard, great information, thanks.

If it were so simple for it to be just 1s and 0’s…

Hi,
I am a happy owner of the CDT2-MK2, and I saw 3 days ago this thread about the upgrade kit. It sounds great, so far I guess not that many people went for it or did not share any feedback.

does the upgrade also require burnin time? if yes, have you noticed additional improvements after the Burin in?
The upgrade kit cost is quite high compared to the intial price of the CDT2 MK2.
Cheers,
Nic

I bought it and enjoyed installing it. I posted pictures in this very thread of the pieces and the process. In my opinion it is a very nice price for a very worthy upgrade.
It sounded great from the very first listen and the changes to the display were meaningful and appreciated. Plus the ability to Upscale which sounds swell to me.

It’s an easy thing to recommend. And I do.

Thanks aangen, beside the Display and the upscale, I am more interested in noticeable upgrade in quality sound, after a month you have it, had you ever had the impression to miss anything from MK2?

Absolutely nothing.
And if I wanted to go back to the MK2, I can, as I still have the original parts.
They don’t ask for them back. So you could say I now have spares of the circuit board and display assembly.

Al, I’m still not awake. Did you mean to say that the MK3 upgrade didn’t produce a noticeable improvement in sound q?

No, I answered a question asking me if there was anything I missed from the MKII version. I said absolutely nothing.
I prefer the MKIII version.

Mine was a MKIII at purchase and I love it. Still waiting for Al to pull the trigger on a PST so he can compare with the MKIII :grinning:

I got one of these Qstab stabilizers several weeks back as an upgrade to the factory stabilizer that came with my Jay’s Audio CDT2-Mk3. It works great and in my opinion it is a worthwhile investment!
