It is arriving Monday morning according to those colorful folks at FedEx.
The folks in China take really good care of their fans here in the States.
What a fine company!
I’m curious if you needed to re-configure the transport to work with the Holo Audio May, or does DSD configuration work for both? I’m still trying to decide on my next DAC (probably Holo Audio Spring2) and was holding off on the Jay’s transport to make sure it is properly configured.
Do Holo Audio DACs have i2s inputs? That would be the only reason for configuration issues. I personally have zero worries about connecting my transport to any DAC.
Yep, i2s. Somewhere someone posted a link that showed which DACs the Jay’s would work with i2s and I think it showed DSD, Holo, and Denafrips.
Kewl, I did not know that. I had him configure the new pcb for PS Audio as I didn’t know the May has i2s. I’ll email him and see what the settings need to be for the May. They respond so quickly and are so great to deal with.
My upgrade kit arrived today. New main board and a new display assembly. I did not see any instructions but as I am a GENIUS who never reads instructions anyway I was fine. I did see a video on Jay’s website explaining how to remove the top with its switch connection which gave me some idea.
With the top off I discovered that at least three of the standoffs that support the transport mechanism should be removed to make the job easier. Three socket head cap screws and three standoffs removed. On the connectors on the back you’ll need a 16mm socket to remove the fastener on two outputs and there are two small socket head cap screws holding the AES/EBU connector in place. Remove those items and the screws that hold the main board in place. Six screws hold the display assembly in place. Four located at each corner and two near the case bottom about an inch and a half apart near the middle of the board. Remove the protective film from the display element before putting it in place.
Take out the old, put in the new, close the case remembering to reconnect the drawer switch plug and away you go. Took me a bit more than a half hour. Plugged it in, turned it on, and now Mozart is serenading me. It sounds wonderful.
I’ll need to download the manual for the MK3 edition to find out how to use upsampling. A new feature. To dim or turn off the display use the display button on the remote.
This thing is built like a precision instrument that a child could perform this task on. Sweet.
A good deal gets replaced.
What differences do you note?
Thanks that’s interesting. BTW who’s phono is below the transport?
Too early to tell soundwise. The screen is a far simpler display with less blah blah blah. The ability to dim and turn off is much appreciated. I used to turn the thing off to protect the screen. Now I don’t have to.
I have it hooked up to the Kalliope DAC at the moment. Soon I will have the DSD Sr. Back in the system so I can test i2s.
It sure sounds swell. I’ll have to order the new PST so I can compare. The PST can play SACDs where this one is Redbook only.
It is a swell device and those kids in China, Alvin and company are the best. This has been most enjoyable experience.
That is my NBS Universal II preamp which has wonderful phono preamp built into it. The system I am replacing was that preamp and a pair of sweet amps and a very expensive power conditioner. I have been so pleased with it but I’m dropping it all just cause. Someone else is go to be very happy with this gear.
My Gryphon Pandora preamp with its monumental phono preamp inside has been taking its sweet time getting here. I don’t really mind as this NBS unit is the real thing.
It appears to be a great piece of kit.
Interesting the screen is simpler. This would be my preference, but most want more. I also appreciate when a display can be turned off.
Thanks for the share.

This is what is says about the two I2s inputs on the Holo May. Should make it completely compatible with both the Jay’s and the PST.
“Two sets of independent HDMI-I2S input interfaces are provided, and each set of I2S has a four-way
independent circuit, as opposed to standard LVDS chip, making I2S clock signals subject to lower
interference and lower jitter. In addition, each group of I2S inputs can be configured with specific pinout configuration, making it compatible with most of the HDMI-I2S digital devices on the market.”
The last page of the manual show the four preset configurations.
As I mentioned previously I am feeding my Gryphon Kalliope DAC from the Jay’s Audio Transport. I have been listening for hours now even switching to vinyl for awhile. I think this MK3 version is phenomenal. At the moment I think it very well could be my best source. Vinyl included. Yikes!
Time for yet another Silver Disc.
Congratulation!
Hi aangen
Thanks for all the info and pictures of the MK3 upgrade
Having myself a MK2 ,so thinking about doing the upgrade also.
Concerning the up-sampling. Think you can do it via the remote control
Found this on their website
Switchable Sampling Rate 44.1kHz / 176.4kHz (Remote Control ‘Program’ Button)

Glad you’re enjoying. I love my MK3. It will sound even better in a couple of weeks.
Mike
Thanks for sharing, aangen!
I am happy it worked so nicely for you. I am tempted, but slightly worried if I’ll be able to install as smoothly as you did.
Keep us posted on SQ as the upgrade board breaks in.
Also, I would be curious about any sonic advantages running I2S into PSA DS DAC as opposed to AES or whatever connection you used.

I am listening with the upsampling in place. The MK3 is upsamling to 176.4 and the DAC is taking it further still. It seems very worthwhile.
Have you upgraded from the stock CD clamp to the fancy QStab NSE CD Clamp? (On the Jay’s Audio website click the “Shop” link)
No I have not as I was not aware of it. I’ll check it out, thank you!
Fun, it is made from human bone.
