If I felt the DirectStream wasn’t working in my system, it’d be out in a flash - I’m a skeptic about everything, everything needs to prove itself in my system and the DS has proven itself in more ways then one.
So back to my mulling over the DSD files - taking a break from music for 10 days or so helped reset me a bit for sure. i listened to some PCM tracks, both CD and High-Def last night, and I was like WOW, how could I not have heard this before! It reminded me of the revelation I had when going back to my Oppo BDP-105 after having my DS for a couple months. By itself the Oppo is a great piece of kit! A swiss army knife of a Universal Disc player that can also DAC. After enjoying the DS for a bit, suddenly I heard this etched presentation on the Oppo that sounded fantastic to me previously…reading through some reviews, I see other reviewers had seen this too - and I was surprised I didn’t catch it. I guess having a better reference is a reset of sorts. Give some perspective.

Products that are just over-over-overpriced for what they are and what they do: the DS does indeed provide some features that are hard to find in other products. They probably don’t matter very much in terms of audio quality and certainly were not cheap in terms of R&D, but in no way their price is justified.

Pure scam products: I’m thinking about those expensive cables, power generators and other snake oil things such as the noise harvester. Their price are also far from making any sense, but in addition to this, here we can talk about fraud and false advertising since the claimed benefits are not backed by any science or ABX testing.

I know, we already hashed and re-hashed the question of price and value many times before. I, for one will state that the price of an item at the sales counter does not necessarily reflect the value because value is subjective to the owner/purchaser.
The pricing normally includes the cost of development including salaries, shipping, taxes, duties, distributor and dealer profits. And in some countries, taxes and duties will kill you. Nobody works for free.
PS Audio products are not a scam as they work as advertized and supported by a great warranty and service.
Yes, I know that there is a lot of useless bling, voodoo and fairy dust out there. Just vote with your wallet.

We all smell troll. But specific well-considered constructive criticism is beneficial. Thus, I am curious as to his first claim.
Claim two, on the other hand, has been beaten to death and reeks of troll droppings.
Thus, this thread. I will blow it into bit-history if it does not quickly turn into something positive.
