I installed the Pikes Peak OS for the DS. when I go to the “tools” screen the firmware ID remains 1.21. Is this normal? I’ve never had any problems with updating the firmwares (Bridge, PWD, PWT, DS, P5) before.
Welcome, Matthewnz_1
The Pikes Peak OS installed properly for me, and displays 1.2.3 and Rev: Pike.
I would go back to basics and make sure you have approached the update properly. It is easy to forget a step, such as making sure there are no extra files on the SD card, putting the card in contacts up, etc.

Pikes Peak installed fine for me. Shows 1.2.3 and Pike.
Although I have Minimserver in DoP mode the input via I2S still says DSD (in another thread a forum member Bob said his beta fw said DoP in USB input and I tried to mimic it with 1.2.1 and it said DSD, so I assumed it was a feature of his new fw…but guess not).
I won’t listen seriously for awhile yet since the clocks were turned off for a couple minutes…but… :)…DSD sounds MUCH more dynamic and real to me.

I believe the difference (DoP vs DSD) is whether you are using the Bridge (II?) to play DoP vs. USB, AES/EBU, I2S, etc. I remember putting in a bit to indicate DoP vs. DSD, but I don’t know when or how they decided to use it.
Ted,
Pikes Peak also installed fine for me. I’m just starting to listen/compare reference tracks with the new FW and the initial results are very impressive. Also thanks for fixing the “clicks and pops” when changing clocks with the Oppo 103D w/Vanity HD card!
Dave
The clicks and pops bothered me too I’m quite happy with the Vanity HD card - it’s so nice to be able to play my multichannel SACDs again.

The bit is implemented. So it will show DoP if the bit shows DoP, and DSD if the bit shows DSD.
Matthewnz_1, are you still having problems?
It doesn’t work here. I’ve tried several sd cards.
What file system should I use to format the sd card?
I use an iMac. Thanks in advance.

Done, now it works.
Good job guys!
Great sound, beyond my expectations.
Bravo
P.S. Are the balance buttons inverted?
I am still showing Firmware: 1.21 Rev: 0001. I went through the usual drill: DL---->Save---->extract---->send files to SD card---->power down---->(wait 30 seconds)---->insert SD card---->power up---->initialize---->no changes in Firmware.
I tried various permutations of this sequence. The card is showing the 6 extracted files, so they went there. This perplexing because I had never seen this before with the other updates. Yes, pins up. Hmmmm.
Did not load using a third different SD card. Reformatting was done prior to loading the files.
I hate to say it, but your SD cards just may not work.
I had a bunch of 2GB SD cards that would not work in the DS.
Finally I broke down and went to Wally World ( Wall Mart ) where I purchased a 2 pack of PNY 2GB SD cards.
Didn’t even format them and they worked flawlessly.
I have no idea why the other cards would not work.
I had similar issues way back with my PWD MK II and so bought my most trusted Kingston SD cards which I have loads of. PNY are great too.
Has anyone else noticed the balance has been reversed? Left is right and right is left. Threw me for a loop.
So far, with limited time to really sit down and listen, I am floored with the increase in musical detail and all around improvement.
Are you certain the balanced control is reversed?
It does not work by increasing the volume of the channel you want louder, but by decreasing the volume of the opposite channel.
The volume chosen with the master volume is the highest either channel will go. Balance changes are made by decreasing the volume of the appropriate channel. I suspect this is because this is the only option if the main volume is set to 100.
Hello Elk. Yes,it is reversed. Weird I know, but true.Carlo mentioned it also in his P.S. in his post above.

Interesting. Mine didn’t. Try rebooting.
