Do you think it might make sense to leave the SD card out altogether after the firmware is loaded? That’s what I have done in my system.
You can leave it in or take it out. I leave mine in so I do not misplace it.
Ok, as long as the firmware files are removed. You do not want to reload them in error while your I2S or LAN cables are connected. This could cause a buggy firmware load. I have gone back to using Bridge II (convenience is king) and album art requires an SD card, so I leave it in slot, but without firmware files.
Agreed!
Does it really matter if you leave the firmware files on the card? After six years (or however long) of upgrades, don’t think I’ve ever erased the files and have not had one problem. Never seen the firmware reload on a hard reset either.
You can leave he firmware on the card. I do. I also have folders on the card for every other nonactive firmware. The active firmware remains in the root directory.
I would do the same only if the card was not fully inserted. I do not want a software reload every time I do a cold reboot from the rocker switch, e.g. changing a power cord, or moving the power plug to a new location on the power regenerator.
I’ve had my screen lock up or go milky white a couple times and the solution had nothing to do with reloading firmware. In my case, the solution was to turn it off with the main switch, disconnect everything but the power cord and then turn it back on.
