DirectStream Junior Torreys Beta Testing

badbeef said Tried it with another drive - same result.
I am not sur what is going on, it loads for some people and not for others. I will need to do some research as to what is happening. The force loader should load no matter what.

Dennis,

The link in your last post is bad, but I got it from the prior one, and it appears to be running. Thanks. Will advise.

Success!

I just fixed the link, It screwed up when I copied it. I am glad the force load worked for you. Sorry about the confusion. I guess thats what Beta tests are all about.

I had this eject problem all the time with my SD card, but after I ejected it from DiskManager the problem vanished. I have repeatedly reported this herein but nobody seem to listen…107_gif

Also, I think the OS files should be produced on a Windows machine because the extra (unused) Mac-folder creates confusion.

I have reported it too, and so has Ted Smith on several occasions. But people don’t seem to listen or remember. MAC’s seem to be more of a problem that windows, but it can occur on either one.

Dennis

Dennis,

When I mentioned Mac I meant that if Paul create the OS files he is doing it from his Mac and during unzip (after download by the owner) the Mac folder is part of the unzipped folder structure if you are on a PC.

This is an odd little anomaly which initially caused me a bit of confusion. On a PC it is an extra empty folder. I have no idea what purpose it serves on an Apple machine.

Neither does Apple

Thanks for all your effort today, Dennis. It is kind of you (and Ted) to be working like this on a holiday weekend.

I realize we’re not supposed to judge the sonics at this point, but it’s fun - I’m an FPGA DAC firmware update virgin, so be gentle with me. ; )

Fatter midrange and/or attenuated high-mids, which is a nice step in the analog-y direction. Yale would get a little thinnish on some things, but this could be a bit far. Again, I realize it’s not voiced.

A couple of test cuts (which I was listening to just prior to the upgrade):

Mark Knopfler, Brothers in Arms (live) bonus cut from the Ragpicker’s Dream CD:

Right away in the intro applause, it sounded thicker and more natural than in Yale. That’s not necessarily a good thing to pick, I realize, as crowd mics can be out of phase (if there are even dedicated crowd mics). But it sounded a bit oddly thin (less natural) in Yale comparatively.

Alison Krauss, Away Down the River from A Hundred Miles or More:

Same - a generally more natural-sounding midrange curve. Her voice could tend towards high-mid hype in Yale (which isn’t necessarily bad, as long as it doesn’t go too far with it). I guess it’s one of those “revealing” vs. “whatever” deals. : )

Ryan Adams, I Love You But I Don’t Know What to Say from Ashes and Fire:

His voice gets thick-ish at points.

All the prior cuts are 16/44.1, and this is DSD:

Nat King Cole, When I Fall in Love from Love is the Thing:

Helps with this cut. The odd disparity between the strings and the vocal is less annoying. Some of the cuts on this record remind me of Phil Spector. Anyone know if the accompaniment is out of phase with the vocal? (as with the Wall of Sound)

I’ll get around to testing functionality over the weekend. Happy 4th all, and thanks.

Any time I am available I am happy to help any where I can.

Top-notch organization!

I had nothing to do with this release - it was done on a Windows machine. Windows are not allowed in my office or near me.

I had no issue…just deleted files of an existing FAT formatted USB copied over the 4 files from the zip and installed no issues.

Then after the install I stepped thru the settings and there was a bridge update that looked like it was there so I pressed and held the button and it went off and updated…it’s still running while I type this so once it is done I will do a quick working test and post some more pics too.

Must remember to remove the USB and restart things too

Anyone have any idea how long a bridge II update takes? its been like 30 mins already!!

EDIT OK its nearly 3 hrs and its still going…I think I will have to reboot after the F1 or I won’t get any listening time in on Torrey’s tonight.

Did you succeed in getting the update to work?

I wasn’t keeping track of the time, but I’m sure it was less than 30 min, probably less than 15 min. One thing I noticed was that JRiver MC22 kept calling it “Bridge2” for about 30 min and disappearing when you clicked on it. So I rebooted MC22 and the bridge now shows up as “PSAudio DS” and then it worked better than ever, meaning before it seldom worked at all, now it works fine. So far, anyway.

After 6 hours I turned it off. Waited 30 seconds and restarted. Rechecked for bridge update and non indicated but I’m not sure how to check the current version.

Torreys is still indicated. No time to get a good listen now but will do so tmro.

The bridge update should only take about 10 minutes. If it takes more than 30 just reboot.
