I think one of the most cost effective things you can do for your audio system is to get dedicated power lines with great grounding.

Please would you say a little more about what in your opinion constitutes great grounding?

I already have a spur from the breaker board dedicated to my audio equipment. I put it in myself using very heavy duty cable (thicker conductors than would normally be used to supply a cooker or electric shower). The earth conductor in that cable also is pretty thick. The breaker board was new in the past two years so the earth resistance was tested by an electrician and is within spec for a domestic installation.

Do you have an opinion or experience of making another connection to earth at the outlets next to the audio equipment. I was thinking of a thick earth (only) conductor from the back of the outlets directly to the ground outside. Unlike the earth at the breaker board it wouldn’t be shared by other electrical equipment in the house and wouldn’t run close to other domestic circuits.
