Directstream Mk 2 observations

Did you mention that you have checked the fuse to see if it was blown?

This is a beta test report on the mk 2 if you want comparrisons with other manufacturers DACs you will have to wait for industry reviewers do that.

ā€œIt sounds better than most DAC out of box. Even after 500 hours it gets better.ā€

You may be right on this, but I have a few mods including a network switch added. So, I am not sure if the continued improvement I heard was partially from MK2 break in also.

Weā€™re not sure, but not for the foreseeable future we had quite a past year buying new stereo stuff already.

Upgraded to:
Goldenear Triton Reference
PS Audio MKII DAC
Dennis Had WE 300b Tube amp (while waiting for Decware Sarah WE 300b Tube amp)
ZBit Decware
ZRock2 Decware
GIK Acoustics treatment
Cables etc. etc.

Yaeh I am in the middle of the M-1 fuse burn in. Had to engage Arnie Nudell mids dip in my DSP voicing as well as reduce FPGA absorber foot print on lid by0 .5 inches. I am still waiting for the bass solidity to return, as it did previously and mids smooth again as I have seen in upstream M-1 fuse introductions. But I was hearing further incremental improvements in my Previous AM fuse after the absorber introductions around 500 hours.

ZBIT and ZROCK2ā€“those sure help the system sound great.

We hope, never heard any of Steveā€™s stuff, spoke with him a few times and canā€™t wait.

BTW/ We are very pleased with the PS Audio MKII DAC, I believe the galvanic isolation of the MKII has opened an interesting path for us.

Decware: Ordered
ZBit - shipping
ZRock2 - Maybe next month
Sarah WE 300b - hopefully 2023

I am certain you will enjoy them. I have them in my two speaker systems, and a third ZROCK2 in my headphone only systemā€“the ZROCK2 have become essential components of my listening world.

Thanks for the impression on the MK2. I probably wonā€™t be able to order one til near the end of the year so will miss out on the big trade in incentive. (I have to receive, pay off and experience the Decware 300B amp and some more debt first).

This is one approach.

In my mind, a better option would be to purchase the new DAC, become familiar with it, and bring it to your dealer of choice and compare it to other offerings. While I am interested in what others have concluded, what matters is what I think

If it does not better other DACs, send it back.

i did not check fuse, it just needed a factory reset. the MK2 shows that i can receive the input from USB and PST with various format. therefore, power is not an issue.
i think, the cause of the problem is, the MK2 default config was corrupted, therefore, a factory reset is needed

Did you try re-installing the firmware with a USB stick and after that doing another power cycle?

Not sure what the issue is here. Try it out for free. Itā€™s a pretty good no risk business model for customers.

Take it to your trusted dealers to compare in your own evaluation, or against your own favorite DAC you have now.
If you do not like it, send it back. :man_shrugging:

I had a Holo Spring 3 KTE ($4500) and Direct Stream Dac but thatā€™s it . There is no comparisonā€¦.The Mk2 is better in every respect!!!

I can understand those who would like some comparisons of the MK2 to other dacs but there are other things to consider as well. I have had numerous PS Audio products over the years and this is what I like about the company and should be part of any purchasing decision:
They are a well established company.
Customer service is excellent.
Trade in policy is very customer friendly.
In regards to their dacs Ted will continue to do his wizardry with software upgrades which were all free with the MK 1.
You get in home trials.
Having said all that the MK 1 got excellent reviews but the MK 2 is in another league altogether and if history with the MK 1 is any indicator the MK 2 will continue to get better with software upgrades.

No. Bringing a mail order product that theyā€™d recognize Iā€™d have had to purchase to have into high end stores that Iā€™ve spent years developing relationships with and benefitted from multiples over would do more damage than Iā€™d consider. Those relationships and having take-home to demo privileges there to a wide universe of the top brands is priceless. No chance Iā€™d jeopardize that by what you suggest, no offense of course

Why would it be a problem for a dealer to let you compare the DACā€™s that they sell to the DS2?

Interesting.

I am surprised your dealer would be threatened by this.

It would also be an opportunity for them to learn about their competition.

However, given they will let you take pieces home to addition, you can do the comparison yourself at home rather than relying on others. Same end result.

Elk: When you go to a nice restaurant, do you try to bring in your own wine and expect it will be okay? Itā€™s not about them being threatened, itā€™s about being respectful to full service dealers who provide full service

To show respect you only have to ask them If you could first. I did exactly that at Audio Advice in Raliegh North Carolina. They had no problem with me bringing in a DAC for comparison.

We must be close. Thatā€™s my closest dealer, and where I got two pairs of Maggies and Vandersteen subs. They once let me take home an Audio Research preamp.
