DMP 3.14 released

You are right Brain fart! Thanks

Normally there is not the delay that you experienced. Must have been something going on with the servers!

@sixpack1 - yes, the 2nd one was easier… since I never cared about the display I did not realize how long it takes to download art. The first time I added the cover art I did not let the download complete. You need to allow the download (~30sec) to complete when you reload the CD. This process works great and thanks for all your help to the community. I assume the download is the server downloading to the DMP local SD card to be used for the future; building a local database for the cover art. The next time I load this CD, the cover art display will take seconds…

Where to even start on the new features, I’m really pumped for them.

We are revamping everything. What we want to do is create a UI that is a natural evolution of what we have now, but completely rebuilt. One of our software engineers described it to me as going from 1997 to 2019. We’re aiming to massively improve the user experience.

First off, we’re making the new software much smarter. Rather than relying on metadata, it will fingerprint the audio (think like how Shazam does it) and use that to pull accurate album artwork and artist/album info. The screen will refresh much faster (around 60 Hz like standard computer monitors) and will be capacitive touch like a cell phone. It’ll also just have more processing power in general to ensure faster operation.

Furthermore, updates will be done over WiFi/Ethernet, so no more futzing with SD cards. We’ll also have remote diagnostic tools to analyze bugs more efficiently and easily.

The only downside to this is because of the hardware required to run this improved software, it will not be backwards compatible with the current generation. That’s not to say necessarily that 3.14 is the last DMP firmware, we just won’t see it running this new software interface that we have planned.

@Schroedster - yes, smart move… so it looks like the DMP is frozen. This is important when buying PSA products… glad I got the DMP w/ SACD cause I would not have bought the DMP if it did not have SACD capability. The SW stuff is cute, SACD capability and SQ is the important stuff. Like I said, I never have the display on and I never had an issue updating firmware… now, no SACD… and since DSD is DSD based in SACD… only thing I can say is hummmmm that would be an issue… since streaming is CD quality, I assume those buying the new CD will need Gus and the DSD CDs… $$$$
thanks…

Unless I’m not understanding properly…

3.14 may have corrected all the issues most people had with the DMP, but not the one major new bug introduced in 3.13, that is DSD downsampling for non-PS Audio DACs not functioning anymore, there has to be at least one more update to address this. This bug HAS to be fixed!!! And it has not been adressed in 3.14.

That would be a very bad thing!!!

Does that mean, that the new features described are only possible on the new disc transport? So far no problem for me. But the downsampling bug HAS to be fixed for the DMP! So, 3.15 has to come soon.

The DMP is much slower at downloading the cover art than the PWT used to be. Once the art is resident in the SD card it will load quickly. I have recorded many of my records to CD using my NPC. When I insert them into the DMP I go to the webpage and put a picture and tract list on them. When I play them the look just like a Redbook CD or SACD. They sound great too! the download speed difference is due to the serial interface on the Oppo. The PWT had a parralel interface.

@sixpack1 - to be honest with you I stopped using the DMP when I had my SACD collection ripped using my Oppo 103 and got my Nucleus+ streaming in place. Here is my office May, 2018… I bought (2) SACDs and (3) CDs since May, 2018… In addition, I never have my display on so I don’t even look at any PSA display, once I verified the DSD gave me what was advertised - minus the DSD issue w/ Roon.

As you can see, I had the best intention. Now they store crap and I’m fighting my wife about getting rid of the 2nd rack… Miraculously, in steps Gus the magician selling amazing DSD CDs that are as good as SACDs using the amazing new PSA CD player… Might just have to go out and downgrade for the WiFi load capability…

Really speedy customer service from Joey and speedy mail got me an SD card with 3.14 today.

Installed. Went smoothly. Did what I normally do now: turned the DMP on and off again.

Replayed the disc already in the machine.

Immediately noticed a SIGNIFICANT improvement in sound quality. Sat through an entire disc, just reveling in the sound.

Wow. markD and others above were right. Thanks for the reporting.

I don’t do streaming at all and have a limited amount of music on a server. I am a physical disk lover. The DMP sounds so superior to every other source that I have tried. i have thousands of cd’s and am slowly collecting some special SACD’s

@sixpack1 - good for you, glad you like it… I love mine too… just not as often after I set up my streaming… although it is really cool for the occasional listen… with 1,000s of CDs, need to treat your DMP special…

Thanks for the reply sixpack…I remember this now. This’s what’s strange. Everything is as you indicate except I get no ā€œnewā€ unknown disk at the top of my playlist for anything that is not in my playlist from many months ago(but less than a year). Seems like something is wrong on the PSA end since the Internet Connection and SD card say ok. Maybe I need to connect with PSA support

Exactly the same situation here -CD collection is still growing (I’d say 4,500 or so now) plus I got another 2 SACDs today and oh my God what enjoyment to play’em on my new DMP. I think I have reached 100 SACDs now but as you know titles are fairly harder to find, and pricier.

Just for fun I tried another 2 players I have (transport of the Olive 04HD, and a Yamaha CD-S1000) the 3 going to the same DAC (DSJr) and … DMP blows them out the water. Obviously not going to be exactly equal when they go via different inputs (i.e. I2S, optical and coax) but still, it’s just no contest.

Also really good SQ from sources more modest than SACD. Just got this 3-cd, SHM-CD of Metallica’s ā€˜and Justice for All’, and my son has run off as if I were a serial killer or something. Love this piece of equipment!

@efete - 4500CDs… holy moly is that a lot of CDs… yeah DMP would be my main squeeze with that many CDs. How long has that library taken to amass?

Only perhaps 20% of my redbook CDs show up in my Playlist anymore. Something broke long ago and has never been fixed. I wish PS A would spend a little time maintaining the site or turn it over to someone who will. A few minor changes would make it so much easier to use.

Basically since CD’s first came out -'82 or so?

yeah, that is about 40 years at 100+CDs per year average… like 2 CDs a week… holy crap that is an addiction…

Did you try rebooting your router? Sometimes that can cause this king of issue.
