Matt, is there any reason fixing the UI would make it sound different? It may be that it seems louder, not sure about anything else. I would appreciate knowing if other aspects of the code were rewritten such that SQ would be affected.
first impression is only that the bass seems a bit more forward
Matt rebuilt the timers and slowed the control loops by an order of magnitude. That may explain what you’re hearing. We checked the code for functionality before releasing but never thought to crank up the sound because we figured there’d be no difference. Now that you guys have brought the sound quality to our attention I am going to give it a serious spin this afternoon to see.
I assume that all work on DMP software is happening in 3.x, and no more time is being spent on 2.x?
My DMP lives in its box under the bed until 3.x is done, so I hope there is on-going progress with the new software.
Oh, c’mon B - give it a try. : )
Yes. This is the result of working on 3.
Yeah B… all the cool kids are doin’ it.
Even me, and I’m not a cool kid! Kevin helped me order an SD card.
Guys, I need help here and I also want to recommend that there be a better way of informing owners of firmware updates. I got my DMP the last week of 2016 and have been using it as received ever since. My DMP’s firmware is 1.89. I take it from the discussion here that there was an update to 2.06 at some point (I have no idea when) and now there is an interim update to 2.08. Is ultimately there going to be a 3.XX update? I am currently using the front panel USP port to understand if I can feed in DSDIFF files ( I can, and plan to post a thread asking for some help on this subject), however, I am not sure what I should do about my DMP firmware update right now. Should I update to 2.06, 2.08 or simply wait for 3.XX? Firmware updates to the DS DAC seem to get announced in Paul’s Posts, but none of the other gear updates seem to get announced. Is the forum the only way to learn about these? I agree with some other posts that I have seen that having dates on the updates would really help.
If it’s easy to download and update I’d recommend doing so now to 2.08. 2.06 did help functionality a bit so I’m sure 2.08 will improve that from where your DMP sits now. And there’s likely going to be no other “interim” updates before the completely re-vamped OS is launched. When that happens I guarantee that you will get a Paul’s Post about that as it’s been a topic of discussion for some time. In the meantime I think 2.06 will be a nice boost for you til you hear about the complete update to come.
Does the update procedure work the same was as the dac? Just install files on sd card and toggle main power?
Download obviously from an empty sd card and the whole process took a couple minutes—even I could do it which is akin to a blind mouse finding a piece of cheese once in a while.
Having lost even more muscle tone just sitting here listening, I will say that on my go-to cd, cornet, archtop guitar and upright bass, often bowed and without any percussion, it does actually sound better–clearer, even more articulate, just nicer–even if the update wasn’t intended to affect sq.
Got it. I had a fussy card. tried a 2nd one. Worked perfectly.
Which CD is this? Sounds interesting.

Thanks!

I still get a bit of pops, and ticks when playing SACD to redcloud. It’s slightly less volume when it happens, but I still get it. It sound just like a dirty LP.
Surprise suprise…interim update code, downloaded and installed it. One thing … When I leave the cd in the player and want to start it a little later again. It starts, cover shows up but no music. Stop cd open the tray, close the tray…read the TOC start and it plays again. Somebody mentioned this before, Mr Jaiello.
Will listen to a list of cd’s to hear the difference between old and new. I know it is not ready and polished so maybe there will be a few bugs more. But I mostly use CD and SACD and these formats don’t gave much trouble.
Thanks PS Audio for the interim update, it’s very easy to go from 2.06 to 2.08 and back to compare. For now it’s 2.08 for me.
Radio-seaside, are you using the play button or direct track numbers buttons when you play a CD for the second time?
Play button, but mentioning direct track numbers I try pushing number 1, to see if it starts.
Tried it, both don’t work so tray open and close reading TOC and play again.
