Agreed, as do the Bandcamp, BBC Sounds, Radio Paradise, and Airplay plugins.
I honestly don’t know why it is not more prevalent, what with it being free and highly functional, with multiple high quality mobile apps to control it too
(I’m told the Deezer, Qobuz, Classical.com, iTunes etc. plugins work well too)
I remember having this debate in IT land regarding Linux (for servers) - and in the end the only reason they could come up with was that it’s free, therefore they didn’t have to pay anyone, therefore we had no one to blame so carried on paying millions a year to Microsoft, HP etc…
I, connected by USB. It’s amazing. stable and friendly application, compared to CD (using PS Audio transport) the sound is almost similar, maybe slightly bright. I am very happy with the purchase, totally recommended. greetings
Question: I currently have the ER with an external clock and a Plixir linear power supply and I only use the ethernet connection A and B. What improvement would I notice when using the SPF port? if you could tell me, thanks
Thank you for the quick reply.
I believe TMR here locally carries them (maybe with a trial period) , so I may have to give one a whirl. Seems to be the sweet spot in their lineup.
I have it connected to the MKII, now waiting to install AM M-1 fuse. It was a very good addition… since it is close to the physical supports that I still prefer (SACD - CD). I don’t test DSD files yet.
I posted this in its own thread, but I probably should have put here:
So I have had this two nights. Both my Sonore Signature SE and it need USB input on the MKII so swapping between the two is not fast. Using songs I know well I compared the two. The stack does use the volt externally LPS. Sonore it’s built in.
From the start it was hard to see any large difference in SQ. I am very used to the sound of the Sonore. But there does seem something a bit more dynamic with the link. Hard to pinpoint. But bass is tight and puncy on both. Highs are crisp w/o being too bright. It would be really hard to pick one over the other on pure A/B comparisons.
But, the Stack home advantages.
It does not pop between DSD and PCM. a small click when pcm goes to DSD. But nothing like the Sonore.
The software is easy to update w cable for a reset. IT SELF UPDATES ON UPGRADES. Which it did for me after my flash. They do releases. Sonore has been on this version for over two years.
Build quality. Holy cow it’s tiny little hunk of solid billet aluminum. LPS Too. Anti vibration built in chassis from what I read. Also isolation with the case.
It’s silver. So it matches my gear. I know. But I like that
I only use Roon so I cannot comments on other streaming software.
Concluding all of the above, there are a load of good value streamers that have superb sound quality via usb (and no data limitations), don’t bother with audiophile switches and use fibre if possible. Which is where I also happened to end up.
The Red can use I2S so in theory I could compare that one easier to One of them at a time. Will I end up doing that, not sure. I hate to open it and then have to sell if I keep the Stack. But will I2S give it an advantage? I would love to know. I do like the ease of using external LPS vs the internal one in Red. I have to make that call in 3-4 weeks when the red arrives. Unless someone makes me a good offer on a NIB Red I may crack it open.
When I had the Sonore alone, I did not bother with high grade Switch. Had a cheaper $20 netgear. But when I thought I was going in the Airlens direction (and I still could) I got a deal on a Melco S100. Fiber in and 7 ethernet and 1 fiber out. I have kept that in place. if it helps it helps. Not going to mess with what works very well. Was it a waste of money? who knows.
